MOE Kindergarten @ Springdale

Springdale Centre Head - Melina Loh

Melina Loh

Centre Head, MOE Kindergarten @ Springdale

"Every child is a unique individual who possesses the potential to bring something special to the world."

Melina believes in providing the children with a safe learning environment that encourages risk-taking and co-construction of knowledge. This gives opportunities for children to learn through self-discovery and in the process, ignites their passion for learning. She sees the role of early childhood educators as facilitators of learning. They guide the children through quality interactions and develop in children a love and respect for themselves, others and the environment.

Parents are their children's first teachers. Melina fosters a close rapport with parents by engaging them in kindergarten events and activities, which gives parents opportunities to better understand how to partner the MOE Kindergarten to bring out the best in their children.

Deputy Centre Head, MOE Kindergarten @ Springdale

"A teacher affects eternity. He can never tell where his influence stops"

The above quote by Henry Brooks Adams resonates with Fidah and influences her teaching practices. Fidah’s philosophy to teaching is built upon her experiences in Boston as an undergraduate, a study trip to Reggio Emilia as well as professional exchanges with other pre-school educators both locally and overseas. She constantly strives to use the ideas gained in her interaction with the children and the families that she partners with.

Besides being an experienced educator with more than ten years of experience working with children from different age groups, Fidah is also a caring mentor to beginning teachers and students on their field practicum programme. In 2015, she received the Outstanding Early Childhood Teacher award presented by ECDA. In the subsequent year, she also led her team in receiving the 2016 Merit Award for their innovation project - “The 'L.I.P' (Limericks. Improvisation. Poetry) Project!” from ECDA.
