Degree Holders

If you have the relevant content knowledge, personal qualities and passion to teach and inculcate sound moral values, you are the one we are looking for. If you are a university undergraduate, you are strongly encouraged to apply in the early part of the final year of your studies.

Teaching Level

Degree holders may teach at any the following levels:

  • Primary
  • Secondary
  • Pre-university

There is no pay difference for teachers across the different teaching levels, if they hold the same qualifications. Those with relevant working experience may have increments granted at the Ministry’s discretion.

Your school posting is subject to the Ministry’s organisational requirements and the vacancies available. If you are assigned to teach at the secondary or pre-university level, you may be deployed to the primary level in the course of your service with the Ministry, if the organisation requires it of you. If you are redeployed to a level you have not been trained to teach, training will be provided to facilitate your redeployment.

Possible Subject Majors for Teaching Subjects

All applicants who wish to join teaching are assessed in totality, e.g. personal qualities, experience and content knowledge. Assignment of teaching subjects is largely dependent on whether or not applicants possess the necessary and relevant content mastery; as for teaching level, applicants would need to possess the personal qualities and disposition as relevant. The list below provides an indication of the possible subject majors that are preferred for the various teaching subjects. Please note that the list is not exhaustive and additional relevant criteria may apply.
