Year 2014

“Very Selfless and Caring”

Mr Ibrahim

I would like to share with you how pleased I am with Madam Noorzaidah and Ms Stephanie Png, teachers of Crescent Girls' School. They have epitomised responsibility, selflessness and care in the way they discharge their duties as teachers-in-charge of the students during an overseas learning trip to Laos.

At Changi Airport, we noticed that both teachers were constantly keeping a close watch on the girls, and keeping things in order. My daughter came down with fever on the first day of the trip but Madam Zaidah and Ms Png took very good care of her.

The most touching thing that I will always remember was when Madam Zaidah took the effort to regularly check on my daughter’s temperature at night. I felt reassured that my daughter was being well cared for. Both teachers were watching over 40 students and with one student being unwell for three days; it was not easy on them. Both teachers still performed their duties well above and beyond what was expected.

I want to express my heartfelt thanks to Madam Zaidah and Ms Png for their sincere efforts in looking after the students during the trip. As parents, we would not hesitate to allow our daughter to go on overseas school trips especially with responsible and caring teachers like Madam Zaidah and Ms Png.

Thank you, Madam Zaidah and Ms Png.

“Thank You for Your Dedication”

Mrs Sharon Tan

I would like to thank Mr Idris Chua of Pei Hwa Presbyterian Primary for the care, concern and dedication shown not only to my daughter, but I am very sure to the rest of the students under his tutelage.

Mr Chua gives weekly updates via e-mail to parents of his form class on what has been taught during the week and highlights the areas where we can help our children to improve. He is also always available when we need to discuss with him on matters regarding our children and their studies.

My daughter is blessed to have him as her form teacher for two years and I would like to take this opportunity to tell Mr Chua to keep up the good work. He has indeed brought his students on an exciting and enriching learning journey for Math and Science.

“Care, Dedication and Commitment”

Mdm Chang

My husband and I would like to thank School Principal, Mrs Pek Kwee Lan, and Mr Bhimbahadur Gurung, Vice Principal of Endeavour Primary School. Both of you provided strong guidance in handling the unexpected circumstances of our daughter's recent traffic accident.

We also want to thank our daughter's Form Teacher Ms Rejini and all her subject teachers in giving her make-up lessons to help her catch up on her school work. Your utmost patience and dedication in helping my child during this period meant a lot to me and my family.

I also want to compliment Mr Bhimbahadur, all the teachers and school staff for standing outside the school compound (before and after school hours) to ensure that students (and their parents) observe road safety, even under the scorching sun.  All of you have exhibited a strong sense of care, dedication and commitment towards touching young lives. This passion of yours has truly opened both our eyes to the importance of true education in helping young in their life journey.

We sincerely believe that under your leadership, Endeavour Primary School will continue to touch many young lives and the school will continue to shine.

“Keep Up The Good Work”

Ms. Sharon Tan

I would like to thank Mr Idris Chua of Pei Hwa Presbyterian Primary School for his care, concern and dedication shown to not only my daughter, but to the rest of the students under his tutelage as well, I am sure.

He gives weekly updates via e-mail to parents on what is taught during the week and also highlights the areas which we, as parents, can help our children in. My daughter is indeed blessed to have Mr Chua as her form teacher. I would like to tell Mr Chua to keep up his good work as he has brought many children on an exciting and enriching learning journey for Science and Math.

“Salute to the Dynamic Leaders”

S. Malar

My appreciation goes to teachers of Orchid Park Secondary School: Mr Lim Yu Sim, Madam Tan G.B and Madam Maslin for their dedication and care for my son especially during his final year in the school. Many thanks to the Principal Helen Tan, teachers that taught my son from Secondary One to Secondary Four and the office staff as well. It has been a pleasant experience. Once again, thank you Mr Lim, Madam Tan and Madam Maslin for believing in my son. My family and I thank you for motivating and inspiring him. Thank you to Mr Yusri the band Maestro, for cultivating my son’s interest in music. I salute all of you, dynamic leaders.

“Deeply Grateful and Thankful”

Lily Ooi

We would like to say a big thank you to Mrs Chung of Maha Bodhi Primary School. My daughter is blessed to have a teacher like Mrs Chung. Mrs Chung gave my daughter the confidence that she needed in Primary Six and she is also the reason that my daughter has grown to be resilient. Mrs Chung conducts 'Step Up' classes during recess and sends encouraging messages to the students. She treats the students fairly, speaks to them like young adults and shares her life experiences with them to help them learn what is right and wrong.

Mrs Chung is indeed a passionate teacher and she loves her students. We are deeply grateful and thankful to Mrs Chung for her hard work and contributions.

“Best Teachers Teach from the Heart”

Mrs Teo

My Primary One daughter is in Huamin Primary School. I would like to thank her Form Teacher, Madam Salyna, who always has a warm smile and is responsive in attending to my concerns. I believe the best teachers teach from the heart, not from the books. Thank you Madam Salyna!

“Great Environment for Learning”

Mrs Ann Goh

I would like to commend my daughter's English and Maths teachers, Ms Evelyn Ng and Ms Jasmine Woo of River Valley Primary School. I am glad to have them as my daughter's teachers. It is because of them that she loves school so much. They have made me aware of my daughter's potential and gave me confidence in her abilities.

In addition, my daughter also told me that the Principal, Mr Danny Poh, has been very involved with the well-being of students in the school through his active interactions with them. Mr Poh has always emphasised to the students the importance of core values such as Respect, Integrity and Excellence. On many occasions, Mr Poh also showed concern to students by enquiring whether they were coping well with school work and kept the door open for any direct feedback from them.

Under Mr Poh's effective leadership and the support of his dedicated and passionate teaching staff, I am certain that River Valley Primary will continue to be a great environment for learning, where young minds are inspired and nurtured to their greatest potential.

“A Passionate and Dedicated Teacher”

SH Liow

I would like to take this opportunity to compliment Mr Melvin Seow of SJI. He is a caring and devoted teacher who goes the extra mile to establish rapport with his students. He movtivates his students to perform well in their studies. After a few meetings with Mr Seow as well as conversations with our son, I learned how passionate Mr Seow is in teaching. Our son is forutnate and honoured to have Mr Seow as his teacher.

“Thank you for your dedication and passion”

Angelin Antony

I am indeed blessed to have Ms Siow of New Town Secondary School as my daughter’s form teacher for two years. Ms Siow has had a hard time dealing with my daughter but never once has she given up. She regularly keeps me updated on my daughter and encourages me whenever I feel distressed about my daughter’s rebellious behaviour.  I have seen an improvement in my daughter’s behaviour and how she reflects on the advice given to her by Ms Siow.

Thank you Ms Siow, for your dedication and passion in teaching your students.

“Valuable Advice”

Leslie Lim

I would like to compliment Ai Tong School’s principal, Mr Tan Yap Kin for his valuable advice. Throughout the briefings he conducted for parents of Primary 5 and 6 students, he stressed on holistic learning for children. Although results are important, he advised us that we should not stress our children unnecessarily. Initially, I was sceptical about what he said during the briefings. However, the concepts he presented slowly sunk in and helped me as a parent. He also shared with parents his ideas from books he had read. I have learnt a lot from those briefings.

In my opinion he is one of the rare principals who stresses on holistic learning of students.

Mr Tan showed a lot of care and concern towards his students. During the recent Racial Harmony Day, he was sporting enough to be in the traditional Indian costume while mingling with parents. He also came out with the idea of the Primary 6 Motivational Day some years ago. This brainchild of his is an innovative programme to relieve stress on Primary 6 students who will be sitting for their PSLE. This year's edition, which was held on 6 June 2013 was very successful. It is an asset for MOE to have him.

“A Caring Teacher”

Leslie Lim

I wish to compliment Mdm Yap from Ai Tong School for being such a caring teacher. She encouraged my daughter constantly and emailed us on some important pointers to guide my child before her exams. She also updates us on our child’s progress in school despite her busy schedule. On top of that, she also gave special remedial lessons to my daughter and other weaker students.

In both my children's 11 years with the school, I have rarely seen such a caring teacher. If there is a "Caring Teachers Award", she certainly deserves it.

Teachers like Mdm Yap are becoming a rarity and they are definitely an asset to MOE and the teaching profession.

Apart from Mdm Yap, Ai Tong is blessed with wonderful teachers such as Mrs Happi Bay, Mdm Cheng Huey Feng, Mrs Leow Kian Lee and Mrs Christine Tan.

“Thank You for all Your Help”

Evelyn Lau

My heartfelt gratitude goes out to Mr Chua, the VP of Gan Eng Seng Primary School, as well as administrative staff, Ms Yang and Ms Siti, for all the help they have rendered. They have always attended to me very promptly and professionally. My older son has graduated from the school, but my younger son will be in P2 next year. I am glad that he is in good hands!

“Happy Students”

I would like to compliment Mr Farhan of CHIJ Katong Convent. He is very passionate in helping us improve our Math and has never given up on students who are in the NT course. Thank you, Mr Farhan, we are very pleased to have you as our teacher!

“Our Teachers Goes The Extra Mile”

Mrs Roseline Chin

My sons are studying in Zhangde Primary School. I am very appreciative of their teachers, Ms Lin and Mrs Singh, who provide them with strong encouragement and support. Ms Lin sends weekly updates to parents via SMS on their children's progress. She goes the extra mile to send SMS reminders to my sons who is a little forgetful due to their slight dyslexia condition. Ms Lin also set up a class blog where she posts questions and solutions to help her students with difficult topics. Considering her workload, I'm grateful that she goes the extra mile. Her efforts have definitely improved communication channels between parents, students and teachers.

Mrs Singh is another fantastic teacher. She has been teaching my older son for two years and has been very supportive. My son can be rebellious and has got into numerous fights. Mrs Singh has patiently guided and steered him out of trouble. I remember one occasion when Mrs Singh took time to send my son straight home, as she knew he had been mixing with bad company after school. My son has since made great improvement and he tells me that it was thanks to Mrs Singh who has taught him to resolve conflicts amicably. Mrs Singh, has earned my son's utmost respect.

I believe our teachers should be given a pat on their back for their dedication beyond their job scope as an educator.

“Thank you, Mr Zaki!”

Haslina Binte Bidin

This compliment is dedicated to my daughter's form teacher, Mr Zaki from Xinghua Primary School. Mr Zaki has been my daughter's form teacher for almost three years and taught her Science and Maths. I wish to commend him for the encouragement he has given to my daughter. His constant updates to parents on homework, school and student matters have helped parents to build a strong partnership in education with him. My daughter sat for the PSLE this year and she enjoyed Mr Zaki's Science lessons. He gave the students much coaching and advice and I am thankful for his guidance that has helped my daughter and her classmates to excel. Thank you for your hard work all these years, Mr Zaki!

“A Motivating Teacher”

Mrs Agnes Lau

Mdm Phoon Fei Foong Pearl is my son's form teacher in Primary 1 and 2 at Punggol Primary School. She told me that my son has leadership abilities and strives to enhance his leadership skills through various programmes, such as helping out in the Audio Visual team as part of the Information and Communications Technology (ICT) programme. Mdm Phoon is also aiming to make him a prefect when he is in Primary 3 next year. Her actions have greatly boosted my son’s confidence and to take pride in his own work. He has also improved much in terms of communication skills when delegating tasks. Mdm Phoon also promptly replies to my messages and keeps me updated on my son's progress. I'm glad that my son has such a good teacher since Primary 1 and I believe this is the reason why he enjoys going to school so much.

“Good and Dedicated Teachers ”

Mdm Sheba Khan

I couldn't stop myself from sharing this. When I was looking for a school for my daughter, I checked on the Internet to find out which were the top schools in Singapore. Fortunately for me, all the places were filled and my daughter got a place in East Coast Primary School instead. At the start, I was a bit sceptical. But as the days passed, all my worries faded away! The teachers there are very good. The form teacher of my daughter, Ms Verina, would attend to my messages and emails promptly. Once, as I was a little late in fetching my child from school, she accompanied my daughter home to ensure that my daughter reached home safely.

I wish to tell all parents that there are many good schools!

“A teacher who makes a difference in the lives of parent and child”

Mrs Julia Chua

Today is a long awaited day for the release of the PSLE results, especially for me who has a special needs child that took the PSLE. I would like to express my appreciation and heartfelt thanks to a special teacher in my son's life, Madam Nora of P6G of Unity Primary School. She has taught my son and his classmates numerous things but most importantly, she showered upon her students her endless patience, love and care. My son would often share with me the things that Madam Nora has done for them, from spending extra teaching time with them in the morning before classes commence and taking the extra mile to coach and guide him. Though my child is dyslexic, she regards him and every student under her wings as unique individuals. She is a motivator to my son and has never left him alone. Madam Nora is ever so encouraging and is always there for my son and all her students. Thank you, Madam Nora. You make a great difference in our lives!

“A great help rendered to a special needs child”

Mrs Julia Chua

I would like to express my heartfelt thanks to my son's AED, Mr Kevin Chua of Unity Primary School. Mr Chua has been most obliging in rendering assistance to my child, who has dyslexia. He is patient and lends a listening ear to listen to all my worries for my child. Mr Chua is always ready to help and is quick in making plans to help my child cope better in his studies. My son has benefited much from his help and he is now able to relate to the things taught in school. We are truly grateful and appreciative to all that Mr Chua has done and he is definitely a great assurance to any worried mother!

Thank you!

“Excellent encouragement and support”

Madam Kaur

My son studies in Coral Primary School. I wish to applaud the dedication and passion that I have seen in my son's form teacher, Mr Hong Khai Yuen. My son has a visual impairment issue and needed extra time in classroom engagement and his studies. Mr Hong was very concerned and he adopted a different teaching approach and technique for my son and made him very comfortable during his lessons. My son stopped feeling the pressure of time and that helped him regain his confidence and self-belief which is very important for us. Mr Hong worked very closely on my son's progress and kept me informed regularly. Our family is truly grateful to Mr Hong for all his help.

We would also like to take this opportunity to express our gratitude to Mr Eric Leong, the principal of Coral Primary School. He has been an excellent source of support to all the students in Coral Primary. He has always been making himself available to listen to our concerns and gives us very sound advice on the choices we make for our children and has taught us along the way on teaching and guiding our kids well. Mr Leong is very approachable and we can freely speak our minds with him. Mr Leong will be leaving Coral Primary School; we will miss him dearly and wish him success in his future endeavours.

Thank you MOE for such wonderful teachers and principals.

“Selfless Contribution and Passion in Education”

Mr and Mrs Tan

We would like to take this opportunity to honour Mrs. Mimi Cheong on her positive influence on her students in Fairfield Methodist School (Primary). Mrs. Cheong has contributed selflessly to her students' learning, especially for my daughter who had problems with her English language studies. She had problems with motivation and confidence when it came to English Language. However, we noticed a dramatic turnaround last year and it is clear to us that it is directly attributable to Mrs. Cheong's teaching methods. My daughter has improved tremendously in her English Language. Mrs. Cheong places students of similar capabilities together and this was to ensure that students can learn at their own comfortable pace. Mrs. Cheong gives detailed feedback on the students' essays, specifically pointing out the areas for improvement. Mrs. Cheong is also a sacrificial teacher who takes out her precious time to teach during recess time. To ensure that the students get their break while they learn, she brings home baked cookies and muffins for them. Mrs. Cheong takes the extra effort to produce a weekly newsletter to update parents on the progress of their children. It helps to boost the confidence of the children and keep them motivated in learning English. Mrs. Cheong is not only effective in her teaching methods; she is also an effective leader in organising team-bonding activities for the class. She organised the haunted house segment for the school Funfair, and this taught the class about camaraderie. Her ideas and techniques have instilled creativity in her students as they were encouraged to contribute ideas and materials to make these events happen. This positive attitude has influenced my daughter's attitude towards all her subjects and even towards the school. As parents, we could tell that she enjoys going to school, especially for English classes. The dramatic improvement in her results certainly shows that we should commend Mrs. Cheong for her outstanding efforts for nurturing her students. Thank you Mrs. Cheong, for all the efforts and extra mile that you put in for your students, we hope that you will continue to impact many lives in the next generation.

“Wonderful team of educators in North Vista Primary School”

David Sanal

I would like to compliment my son's mathematics teacher in North Vista Primary School, Mrs Tan Qili. Mrs Tan has been teaching my son for two years and I noticed the steady improvement and progress he has been making in mathematics. My wife and I attribute his good progress to Mrs Tan's excellent teaching skills. She is a very committed, focused, result oriented, approachable, and well-liked teacher to the students. I remembered when the first batch of students in NVPS was about to take their PSLE, Mrs Tan was due for her maternity leave but she assured us that she would continue to teach as long as she can. That assurance she gave was very special to us till this day. She is indeed a role model for my son. I would also like to express my gratitude to the wonderful management team of North Vista Primary School, the Principal, Mr Phua as well as Vice Principals, Mrs Lim and Mrs Quek. They lead by example and are excellent leaders. North Vista Primary School has done very well and has great outstanding teachers with whom I was privileged to interact and work with.

“Deserves our Utmost Respect and Appreciation”

Mr Richard Soh

My wife and I would like to express our gratitude and appreciation to Ms Tan Geok Kian and Madam Tracy Wong Siong Fong of Gan Eng Seng Primary School. About a year ago, our son was not doing well in his studies and often felt demoralised. Mrs Tan and Madam Wong noticed the change in my son's behaviour and were very patient and encouraging towards him. As a result, my son often told us that he could not let Mrs Tan and Madam Wong down as they always believed in him and often stayed back after class to guide him and his classmates in their studies. Mrs Tan and Madam Wong often called me personally to give feedback on my son's performance and gave me valuable advice on how to encourage my son to develop more interest in his studies. Such dedication and commitment shown by these two teachers truly deserve our utmost respect and appreciation. Both of them are highly professional and competent, and had selflessly taught whatever they could to their students. They did not give up on their students and for this, my wife and I salute them. My son did very well in his studies this year but this has to be due to the good foundation work fostered by Mrs Tan and Madam Wong. My son dedicated his excellent results to them because they never gave up on him. Once again, thank you Mrs Tan and Madam Wong!

“Truly Engaging and Motivating”

Mr and Mrs Chua

Dear Mrs Liu and teachers of P2 Diligence,

We would like to express our heartfelt appreciation to Mrs Liu and teachers of P2 Diligence of Townsville Primary School who have guided and supported our son for the past two years. He has progressed well, both academically and holistically, and enjoys his time in school very much. We are especially thankful to Mrs Tan, his Form teacher for two years, who did a fabulous job in making her classes truly engaging and motivating. We appreciate everything she has done to help my son in his learning journey in school. He has gone from a student who lacks focus in class to being a confident student who often receives praise and encouragement from his teachers. It is truly a tribute due to the school. He definitely could not have done it without the caring teachers in Townsville Primary School. The school has indeed helped build the foundation for the students' academic achievements, and social well-being. The impact of the support, opportunities and recognition given by the school is so significant that it will definitely help our son for the rest of his life. Once again, thank you Mrs Liu and all the teachers of P2 Diligence!

“Invaluable Support, Dedication and Passion”

Ms Chew from Serangoon Garden Secondary teaches my daughter who has partial hearing impairment. There are no heartfelt words that could express my gratitude to Ms Chew for her guidance, care and support for my daughter. Under Ms Chew's guidance, my daughter excelled in her studies and emerged 1st in class and level. As a parent, I admire Ms Chew's dedication and passion as a teacher. Ms Chew, here is a big thank you from me!

“Thank you, Mrs. Lye”

Mrs Goh Boon Hong

I would like to commend my daughter's form teacher, Mrs Lye Chee Wah of Sengkang Primary School. Mrs Lye has put in place many good structures to guide and monitor my daughter in her school work and her behaviour. She is also quick to identify the gaps and provide timely feedback for me to address the issue. I am sure that my daughter will further improve with her guidance and close monitoring.

Thank you, Mrs Lye.

“Excellent Advice”

Mrs Goh Boon Hong

I would like to commend Madam Wu Fang, the Chinese Language teacher of Seng Kang Primary School. Madam Wu has taught my daughter since Primary 1. She has given me advice on ways to help my daughter and with her support, my daughter is now more competent and has a stronger foundation in Chinese Language. Thank you Madam Wu, I am so glad that my daughter has you as her teacher.

“Her Passion is Exemplary”

Chang YF

My daughter is a Primary 4 student of Nanyang Primary School. When she was in Primary 1, she had to stop attending school for almost two years due to a medical condition. Her form teacher then, Miss Neo Sie Bie regularly visited us and saw to it that my wife and I were coping well physically and financially as we had both stopped working to care for our daughter. Miss Neo demonstrated love, care and graciousness that can never be repaid.

On this Teachers’ Day, we would like to take this opportunity to thank Ms Neo Sie Bee for all her efforts and help to my family. Your passion in your profession is exemplary.

“An Encouraging Teacher”

Peggy Tan

My Sec 3 daughter is in CHIJ St Teresa's Convent. Her Form Teacher, Mrs Valerie Lee has always been very encouraging towards her. My daughter has not been doing well in her school work since primary school and shows no interest in studying at all.  This year however, I noticed that my daughter has become a happier person. She is also more eager to learn and asks for help when she needs it. Now, she revises and completes her school work, and takes prides in her chairperson role in class. All these changes are due to her Form Teacher, Mrs Lee. I would like to acknowledge the “hard and heart” works of Mrs Valerie Lee who has never given up on my daughter.

Thank you, Mrs Lee and Happy Teacher's Day!

“Great Motivator”

I would like to thank my relief teacher, Mr Shyam from Hougang Secondary School. Mr Shyam’s history classes are always very enriching and interesting. He motivates us to do well in our exams.

Thank you and have a happy teacher’s day, Mr Shyam!

“A Fine Role Model”

Tham Siew Wan

I came across a poignant note written by the band members of Yishun Primary School’s Concert Band for their instructor, Mr Faizal Othman. The students described how he is a very caring, dedicated and responsible instructor who not only taught them music but values, morals as well as responsibilities. For a fine young instructor, Mr Faizal was looked upon as a father figure to the students as well. That can be no greater honour, so on this Teachers’ Day, please accept my gratitude and heartfelt thanks for coaching my two children.

 Thank you, Mr Faizal.

“An Inspiration”

Nur Assyakirin

I was a former student of Junyuan Secondary school and am very honoured to be taught by Mr Ang Keng Kiat.

Mr Ang is a dedicated and a very caring teacher. Although I was very weak in Mathematics, Mr Ang appointed me to be the subject representative. He continued to coach me in the subject, relentlessly teaching the topics until I could understand them. He turned Mathematics into a fun subject and was very dedicated in making all his students excel. I passed my Mathematics with flying colours and could not have done it without his patience and encouragement.

Till today, Mr Ang earns my utmost respect and he inspires me to be a teacher myself. Thank you for everything, Mr Ang!

“The Epitome of the Teaching Profession”

Tham Siew Wan

I am the parent of a student in Mrs Audrey Lee’s class from Primary 3 to 6 in Yishun Primary School. As an educator myself, I salute her for her energy, dedication and enthusiasm shown to her students. She represents the epitome of the teaching profession. She has sacrificed her time for the benefit of the students, for all she wants is for her students to do well for their future.

My heartfelt thanks and gratitude, Mrs Lee.  Have a lovely teacher’s day, you deserved it.

“Genuine Love and Passion for Children and Education”

Quek Li Yen

My son is studying in Greendale Primary School and he is very fortunate to have Mrs See teach him English for P1 and P2. She is a very caring and amiable teacher. My son often tells me about how much he enjoys his English classes with Mrs See. When he had chicken pox and had to stay home for two weeks, Mrs See emailed him encouraging notes and even passed him a box of biscuits when I went to collect his homework from the school. Thank you Mrs See. It is so heartening to see teachers who have the genuine love and passion for children while educating them.

“Encouraging and Patient teacher”

Quek Li Yen

I am very thankful to Miss Tham of Greendale Primary school who teaches Chinese Language. My son's grasp of Chinese is very weak and I have met Miss Tham to discuss the possibility of him having to take Chinese at a foundation level in the future. She was very encouraging and told me not to give up on my son. I'm really thankful for Miss Tham's patience and diligence in trying to engage my son during her lessons. Thank you Miss Tham!

“A Dedicated Role Model”

Joy Bea Lee

My child has just transferred to Punggol Primary School. Ms Yvonne Goh, my child's form teacher played a significant role in transforming and helping my child adapt to the new school setting. She had even taken time to speak and counselled him when he had problems coping with the new expectations. She had gone beyond the normal duties of a teacher.

She had also taken time during class to teach the children about values and moral issues. It is something that has truly touched my heart as a parent, and my son. This to me is true education, which no books can replace. Here is an abstract of what my son has written to her after her posting to another school during the June holidays.

"Dear Ms Goh, all is well in class and the class and I appreciate the letter you have written for us. I am coping well in class in all my subjects and I want to say thank you for teaching us so many values we can use in our daily lives to help us grow. Thank you for being a wonderful teacher and including us in the lessons. Your lessons were very engaging and educational. "

Ms Goh, is indeed a true teacher whom I believe has made a significant and important impact in my son's life. Good, dedicated and role-model teachers are truly appreciated by parents.

Thank you Ms Goh

“Caring and Kind”

Joy Bea Lee

My son is in P4, North Vista Primary School.

I wrote in to the HOD (English) after the June holidays, to find out more about my son's progress in English Language for his semestral exams.

Ms Grace Foo, the English HOD, had kindly contacted me personally herself and answered my queries. I'm truly appreciative of the fact that she had called me personally and assured me that the school would do its best to assist students with the new changes for PSLE English exams in 2015. Ms Foo was very patient and explained to me the changes in the syllabus.

I am very heartened that the school has such a caring and kind teacher and I am confident that my son's learning journey will be in safe hands.

“Dedicated and Caring Teacher”

Mr Tan

My son is in Primary 4 this year at Greenwood Primary School. For the past 3 years, he has been in the afternoon session. This year, he is in the morning session and we were worried about whether he would be able to cope. On the first day of school, I met with his form teacher, Mr Chin, and had a good talk with him regarding my son’s difficulty in staying focused. Mr Chin assured me that he would do his best to help my son and that he will give me an update on my son’s work and progress every day. To my surprise, Mr Chin has done all that and more. His teaching and guidance has developed in my son, increasing interest in school and my son would come back each day with lots of things to talk about. Mr Chin has also taught his students about everyday life and about being responsible and respectful. He also coordinated well with other teachers like Ms Dong, my son’s mother tongue language teacher, to help my son’s lack of focus. We are very grateful that my son has such a dedicated and caring teacher. We sincerely hope that more can be done to change the mindset of teachers that they are not merely doing a job but are influencing the future of many. Thank you.

Special thanks to Mrs Foo, the principal who looked into my son’s case the moment we brought it up to her.

“Excellent and Passionate Educators”

Mr & Mrs Thor

We're writing to express our most sincere appreciation to the school, teachers, educators and permanent staff of Tanjong Katong Secondary School (TKSS). Special thanks to Ms Chen Ailing, for always going the extra mile to help our child, in school work and social behaviour in school. As parents, we're very grateful. Not only did Ms Chen took time to patiently listen to our growing difficulties with our child, she also helped to provide various forms of school support. Her swift implementation of several constructive measures to improve our child's learning ability and character building are exemplary. We also thank Ms Chen for making good after-school care arrangement for our child with the school’s Student-Welfare teacher, in between school and CCA. Honestly, it's really a great blessing for many parents like us, and students in TKSS to have such a caring and responsible educator at the secondary education level. Finally, we would like to say a big 'Thank You' to you, the principal, for grooming and mentoring these excellent and passionate educators in TKSS.

“Productive, Constructive and Amicable”

I wish to thank MOE officers from the Curriculum Planning and Development Division for hosting a productive, constructive, and amicable H2 China Studies in English focus group discussion on 10 Apr 2013. Throughout the session, the MOE officers set the pace of the discussion extremely well, and actively engaged students, allowing them to voice their opinions and provide constructive feedback.

I was constantly impressed at how students like me were treated as stakeholders in education, rather than mere participants, and how MOE officers valued our insights. This speaks volumes of the admirable work ethos and culture of engagement the MOE officers had, and augurs well for the future of dialogue and student-Ministry engagement in Singapore.

“Tansformation is made possible by the quality of education programme”

Joanne Chung

I would like to send a big thank you to all the staff, teachers and principals of Maris Stella High School for the great job in grooming my son, Chung Wen Kai throughout the 4 years of his secondary education.

Thank you for accepting Wen Kai into the school, coaching, grooming and giving him a chance to excel academically and socially.

You have done a great job in nurturing him from a slightly below average performer in PSLE to one of the top performers in GCE ‘O’ Level Examinations. This transformation is made possible by the quality of Maris Stella High School's education programme, as well as commitment, dedication and beliefs of the school.

Once again, thank you all for leading him well in his growth journey and his achievement in 2012 GCE ‘O’ Level Examinations.

“Home Stay Programme”

I would like to thank Mr Ong, Principal of Teck Whye Secondary School, and all the teachers and staff of the school for giving my family a chance to host a Korean student in the home stay programme. We really enjoyed it and not only did my kids learn from this programme, we as parents also learnt a new culture from the exchange student.

When my son was in Korea, he really enjoyed the trip and learnt new things from the exchange programme. I really hope that this programme will continue so that younger Teck Whyeans will get the chance to benefitfrom this programme.

Kudos to all the teachers and staff of Teck Whye Secondary School, especially those who organise the exchange programme.

“Growing with Good Habits”

Nuraslindah Rasid

It has been two weeks since my son, Ahmad Zulsyuqree started school. I must say that I am glad to see my child sharing what he does in school every day. He seems to enjoy school and he is always looking forward to be in school. My son is not a morning person and I am often worried that he cannot wake up in the morning for school. Now, I am impressed to see him waking up in the morning and getting himself ready for school.

Please send my regards to your school dentist and convey my gratitude to her. She called me to get my consent for my child as I had forgotten to complete the dental form. She was very professional. When I came back from work one day, the first thing my child showed me was the correct way of brushing his teeth. That night, he brushed his teeth and I’m impressed because normally, he would not want to brush teeth at night. The next morning, he brushed his teeth again in the same way he wastaught in school but even longer to ensure that he had mastered the correct way of brushing his teeth. You can’t imagine how happy I am to see my child growing with good habits instilled by your school.

Thank you so much!

“Positive Changes”

Eunice Teoh

I just would like to express my gratitude for the good work by Mr Yap (Principal of Opera Estate Primary School) and his team for what they have done for the kids at Opera Estate Primary School. My eldest son graduated from Opera Estate Primary School a few years ago, and now my younger one is in P1 Grace I noticed that you have made a lot of positive changes to the school.

My husband and I were particularly touched by the fact that you and your VPs went out personally to shelter kids with umbrellas on the day of Chinese New Year eve, when it was raining heavily. It touched our hearts. Another parent shared with me that Mr Yap is usually seen at the nearby traffic junction after school hours to ensure that students cross the roads safely.

Thank you, Mr Yap for going the extra mile to care for our kids.

I would also like to commend Mdm Nagina, my elder son’s form teacher who has been responding to my emails promptly and calling me personally to discuss on my son’s progress in class. Ms Zuo, my son’s Chinese language teacher would also call me to assure me that my son was able to keep up with his Chinese lessons.

Starting a student care in the school is an excellent idea. It works out well for families like ours, where both parents are working. Furthermore, it’s within the school compound and it is safe. Staff (at the student care centre) are also competent. They guide students through work and play. Thank you also for organising Friday programmes to teach students about values and character. While the school can help to guide students, we parents also need to be very involved in this character building process.

Keep up the good work!

“Great Courage and Community Spirit”

Derek Liow

I would like to commend one of your brave students, Mr. Kwek Wei Kiat of class 2A2 of Fajar Secondary School for his courage and spirit shown on 16 Feb 2013 at Clementi Mall.

The incident happened at approximately 7.30pm in the male toilet of Basement 1. An elderly man had fainted in the washroom and he was suspected of suffering from a minor stroke. Your student showed great courage and community spirit at such a young age by calling the ambulance even though he did not know the man.

Throughout the entire ordeal, the student stayed by the man’s side and even used the elderly man’s mobile phone to contact his next of kin. He also tried to keep the elderly man conscious by talking to him.

Your student stands out among other Singaporeans, even those older than him. He offered his help to the elderly man while those older than him just stood by to watch.

We are truly impressed by his courage and unconditional care given to the elderly. This is what our society is lacking in.

I hope Fajar Secondary School continues with the great work in imparting life lessons to its students.

Thank you.

“Developing Students with Good Character”

Rachel Lim

I would like to take this opportunity to thank Mrs Chang.

I am an ex-student of Anderson Primary School and was taught by Mrs Chang in Primary 1. I’m in Secondary 4 this year and till today, I still remember her kind words and teachings. She was my form teacher who taught me many subjects. Although I was very playful in her class, she never got angry and was always patient with me. She encouraged us to try harder when we fail and she was strict when she needed to. She was like a mother to me but at most times, she was like a friend.

I still recall the things she told me years after graduating from the school. Mrs Chang have contributed greatly in building my values and character.

Anderson Primary School has really played a big part in my life. I think the teachers have done a fantastic job in developing students with good character.

“Supportive Teachers And Environment”

Thomas and Doreen

Our daughter is not academically inclined and often did not do well in her exams in the past 6 years. Even in the PSLE this year, she did not do well but we do see some small improvements in some subjects. Nevertheless we are happy she made the small progress and we hope she would continue to improve in the years to come. We are hoping she might be one of the late bloomers and would catch up at later stage.

We would like to compliment Shuqun Primary School, the principal, the teachers and the Ministry for the support rendered to our daughter, despite her not being academically inclined and repeatedly not done well. Her teachers, Ms Navanitha Jayandran, Ms Wong Siew Lan, Mr Liew Lim Han and Mdm Chiew Pio Susan, spent hours guiding our daughter patiently and offering additional remedial classes in the afternoons without fail just to give her an additional boost. During this PSLE season, they held remedial sessions almost every afternoon and prepared lots of practices to prepare our daughter and her few other friends who are equally weak to get them ready for the PSLE. While some may say this is their job, we think they can very well not spend that extra hours but they did and we truly appreciate their hard work and efforts. The Principal, Miss Geetha D/O Doraisamy, has also been very helpful strategising with the teachers to provide the best care for our daughter and her friends, and motivating them to do their best. The final result is not promising and we are sure they are as heartache as we do. Yet, during he result collection day they were still very encouraging to my daughter and encouraged her to continue working hard in the next phase in life. They encouraged her not to give up but continue to make progress, one step at a time.

With supportive teachers and environment like that, we are consoled and we are sure our children are in good hands and are being well taken care of. We will continue to encourage our daughter to do her best and make the progress. We are thankful to the principal, the teachers, the school and the ministry for being so supportive and the great help in making all the efforts to provide the environment, educate and groom our children.

You all have indeed done a great work. We sincerely like to thank all of you for the efforts put in.

“Went the Extra Mile”

Lim Bee Leng

I would like to commend Mr Lim Yong Ming who was my daughter’s Mathematics teacher in Blangah Rise Primary School. As an underachiever in her class, my child had low esteem as she had performed badly in her Mathematics tests all these years. In fact she obtained a ‘U’ grade in her P6 preliminary examination which caused much anxiety in her. Despite her ‘hopeless’ case, Mr Lim did not give up hope on her. He did not make her feel like a loser. On the contrary, he went the extra mile to coach her in school after the remedial classes and most importantly, encouraged her and inspired her to overcome her obstacles. When the PSLE results were released, we were overjoyed to know that our child had obtained a ‘B’ grade instead of ‘U’! We would like to give the credit to Mr Lim who made an impact on my child's milestone. When I asked my child what is her expectation of the Secondary School she would like to attend, she said, “The school does not need to have a nice building or great facilities, I only hope I have caring and great teachers like Mr Lim.”

“Swift Actions”

Elise Tan

I would like to compliment Mrs Ng Mong Kheng from Peirce Secondary School for her excellent service. My husband and I brought our daughter to the Open House at Peirce Secondary School last Saturday. After attending the speech by the Principal, we had a talk with Mrs. Ng to clarify some of our doubts. She was patient and knowledgeable. When we asked her about MOE’s selection criteria in assigning schools to students, she was not sure and told us that she will check and get back to us. To our surprise, we received a call from her within half an hour to explain to us on the selection criteria! We were really impressed by her swift actions despite her busy schedule that morning!

“Positive Reinforcement”

Dewia Chang Elma

I would like to commend my sons’ P2 teacher at Teck Whye Primary School, Ms. Farhanah. As the school year ended, she gave each one of her students, a powerful artwork by her, laminated, bond-paper size, with a group photograph and a very powerful message of appreciation, mentioning my son’s SPECIFIC good qualities and focus on the future. This is a very effective use of the Principle of Positive Reinforcement, which all our teachers should emphasize and implement. When my son came home from school, at the start of vacation, he said, “Mom, I will miss school.” Positive Reinforcement inspires our children to meet our desired expectations, whether on behavior, school performance etc. It’s better than scolding, threats of punishments to make our children do what we want them to do. Congrats to Teck Whye for having effective teachers!

“Effective Guidance & Support”

Linda Goh

I am writing this letter to inform my heartfelt thanks with the learning support my son, Shaun Chee is receiving at Anchor Green Primary School.

My husband and I are very thankful for the school principal, Mrs Dhillon’s effective guidance and support.

Despite Mrs Dhillon’s busy schedule, she always put forth extra effort and time to follow up with us (parents), Case Manager and Shadow Learning Support Teacher.

Being a school leader, Mrs Dhillon displays her abilities in motivating while staying positive.

In particular, we really appreciate Shaun being the one to benefit from the positive influence, great dedication, patience and tolerance that Ms Kelynn Wee, Mrs Angeline Ling, Mdm Catherine Lim and Mr Thomas Ang have displayed the past 2 academic years.

Ms Wee, Mrs Ling, Mdm Lim and Mr Ang have served as important guiding educators in achieving Shaun’s educational milestones.

I look forward to Shaun’s continuing progress with Anchor Green Primary School. Thank you for all your outstanding efforts, and those of your staff.

“Selflessly Volunteered”

Wee Bee Hwa

Just before the PSLE this year, Mdm Jing Qing selflessly volunteered to coach my daughter over several Saturday nights. Mdm Jin lives a few blocks away from us and was her Mandarin teacher in Primary 1 and 2.

Her sacrifice of her free time for my daughter to hone her Mandarin is much appreciated by us. MOE is indeed fortunate to have a teacher like her in your midst.

“A Strong Sense Of Dedication And Commitment”

Victor Lim

The recent incident of our son happened so sudden that it totally caught us off guard. As parents, we were both worried and emotionally affected by this matter and we would like to thank you and your staff for providing strong guidance in handling various unexpected circumstances. All of you exhibited a strong sense of dedication and commitment towards the job of touching young lives when they most needed help during their important journey in life. This passion has truly opened both our eyes to the importance of true education and helping young lives in their path of finding one’s true character.

We would like to commend your excellent leadership and the team as listed below:

  • Mr Tan Chun Ming (Principal)
  • Mr Wong Kin Mun (VP)
  • Mdm Phila Anne Tan (VP)
  • Mdm Esther Tay (Mrs Say)
  • Mr Zhou Wencong
  • Ms Chia Joo Hong
  • Mdm Maslinda Bte Samuri
  • Mrs Doris Tan
  • Ms Yvonne Loh
  • Mr Adam Sufi
  • Miss Lim Pek Wee

We thank you all for your upmost patience and dedication in helping my child during this difficult period and it meant so much to me and my family. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts and special thanks goes to Mdm Esther Tay for being there when we needed her most.

We sincerely believe that under your leadership, Nan Chiau Primary School will continue to touch many young lives in their journey and continue to shine so brightly. Well done!

“She’s A Life Changer”

Mrs Chee Kim Ee has been teaching me English since term 3 this year. She teaches with motivation and inspiration that no one can ever teach with. She is the best teacher in my life.

She helps me step into the real world and teaches my class well; going deep into details and giving us helpful tips. She develops us to be matured since we’re already in P5 and teaches us values to follow.

Mrs Chee is a good example to all of us because she makes funny jokes that cracks up the whole class and only scolds when necessary. This way, she transforms us all into disciplined pupils, without needing to give a tongue-lashing.

There are difficult, playful and “special” boys in my class but Mrs Chee does not scold them and stares at them to signal “stop it” when necessary. She tries her best not to scold and everyone can see that. I will never forget her because she gives everyone special opportunities.

I’m here to share with everyone, my great teacher Mrs Chee Kim Ee. She is the best teacher I have ever known—my favourite and my greatest. She helped me become a better person. She’s a life changer. :)

“Maintained Two-way Communications”

Mary Kow

I am parent of Malcom and Kelly who studied at Parkview Primary School. I would like to thank the teachers in this school for their dedication as teachers and mentors. They, Ms Pang and Mrs Ling, have shown passion as a teacher by working closely with parents and helping to nurture the youth. They maintained two-way communications with the parents and provided timely feedback to anxious parents like myself.

I would like express my belated gratitude to them for making school fun and learning a great experience. Although this letter comes two years late, I am truly grateful to them.

“Thank You For Helping Me Like Mathematics”

I am Keerrthana from Sec 3C and would like to express my fullest gratitude to Ms Verin Kuar who taught me Mathematics in Sec 2. She was very patient in helping students, including myself, who thought Mathematics was difficult but excelled in it. She strongly encourages students to seek help from her when in doubt.

However, there is something about her and that is besides being an excellent teacher and motivating us academically. She also nurtures good values for students and I respect her for being such a caring and responsible teacher who inculcates good moral values into us. Even now, whenever we cross out path in school, she never fails to encourage me. She will tell me that she only want the best out of me.

I am in Indian dance and recently we performed for Teachers’ Day, she come to me and told me that my dance was fantastic. All this kind words really make a difference to me and I really respect her for her encouragement. All my classmates likes very much for her positive attitude and the way she delivers her lessons.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank Ms Verin Kaur for being such a wonderful teacher and I will never forget her for helping me like Mathematics and being a role model to me.

God Bless Her & Happy Teachers’ DaY.

“An Amazing Teacher Who Cares About Her Students”

All teachers carry a simple hope that their students will grow up and become successful individuals. No words can express how much I appreciate each and everything my teachers had done and are doing for me. I will never forget their care and effort. Mrs Pamela Gay, my Seconday One English teacher, is the most influential teacher for me.

I first met Mrs Pamela Gay while I was in Secondary One as she was my form teacher and left a very strong first impression on me. She was very friendly and warmly welcomed all her students in my class. Through the course of her class, I had enjoyed each and every lesson. I always look forward to come to Mrs Pamela Gay’s class every day. Not only did Mrs Pamela Gay made the lesson more interesting, she also carefully explained every detail to help enhance the student’s understanding. Her unique method of teaching captures my attention and interest in the lesson. She has the ability to bond with the students, understand and resonate with their feelings and emotions. She never discriminates, nor degrades any students. She encourages all her students to always try their best in everything they do.

However, in the middle of the year, she was assigned to teach the graduating class as I suppose they needed her more. I was upset as I could not have her teach me but I consoled myself that she was one of my CCA teacher in-charge of dance. Even during CCA, she is a role model to all the girls. She is so understanding.

During SYF, we were all demoralised and thought we will not make it as we wanted to reward her and the school Gold with Honours. Realising that we were dejected, she encouraged and motivated by saying “You girls have given your best and I am happy with the performance”.

When the results were announced a few weeks later, we received Gold with Honours for Indian Dance. For me, I personally dedicate it to Mrs Pamela Gay as without her support, encouragement and kind words we would not have gone this far.

She treat us so well and and has a strong bond between every student. All students can discuss and express their own ideas and opinions without any judgments. She has absolutely no tolerance for discrimination and rude comments in her classroom. She provides a secure and fair learning environment for all her students. She motivates the students by using creative and inspirational methods of teaching. Her difference in her approach makes her stand out from the crowd. This is one of the reasons why students enjoy her lessons. She always gave her best in everything she does and expects the same from us. Through her constant guidance and encouragement during challenging times, we were motivated to do better. To me, she’s an amazing teacher who cares about her students.

Here’s Wishing her Happy Teachers Day!

Besides teaching me how to write essays, she also taught me many valuable lessons. She prepared me with all the tools I needed to be successful. One of the biggest lessons I learned from Ms Pamela Gay is that regardless of how hard the path of life is ahead, nothing is impossible to accomplish. Through hard work and determination, all obstacles can be overcome.

Mrs Pamela Gay made a strong impact on my life. Nothing can express my deep gratitude for Mrs Pamela Gay’s guidance and care. As I continue to step into the real world, I will always remember her important lessons. I will take each and every word of advice from Mrs Pamela Gay and bring them with me, on my path to success.

“Thank You For Being Such A Wonderful Teacher”

Niyyatini Mulya

I am a Secondary 3 student from Jurongville Secondary School.

I would like to express my fullest gratitude to my class mentor / a-math and e-math teacher, Mr Johni who has been very patient in helping students excel in mathematics. Mr Johni is my math teacher this year.

After several months being taught by him, I've recently improved in both my a-math and e-math in ca2 as compared to my mid-year exam. My grades improved from a C to an A.

He strongly encourages students to seek help from him when in doubt. However, there is something about him that I wish to highlight. He does not only help students excel academically but also nurtures good values for students. I respect him for being such a caring and responsible teacher.

I wish to see more teachers like Mr Johni in the upcoming years as I hope to see young Singaporeans, not only excel academically but also cultivate good values.

Therefore, I would like to take this opportunity to thank my teacher, Mr Johni, for being such a wonderful teacher.

Happy Teachers’ Day, Mr Johni ! :D

“Helping To Adapt”

Vivian Gwee

My son joined a mainstream school in Singapore when he was Primary 3. Before that, he had lived all his life overseas and attended International school. He had problems adapting to the Singapore way of education and struggled through his first year of school.

It was not until Primary 4 that his form teacher Ms Anita Mui called me and to understand his situation and discuss about his behaviour in school. We started to work together to get my son on the right path. Under her supervision, my son showed tremendous improvement in his work and attitude.

The same goes for Mrs Thiru who coached my son in Primary 5 & Primary 6. She even went to the extent of finding out more about my son from Ms Anita Mui before approaching me. Although there have been times when I am difficult as our views were not the same, she was very patient as we had the same goal.

I would like to thank both teachers for not giving up on my son and continuing to push him to his full potential. Although he is not the top scholar, the guidance given by both Ms Anita Mui & Mrs Thiru helped him to do pretty well for his PSLE. Thank you.

“Thank You For Helping My Son Grow”

Joni Lim

This compliment comes a few years late. When my son first joined Peirce Secondary School, he did not like the new experiences. Although he adjusted well academically, he had few friends and really struggled to participate actively in NCC.

However, Mr Pillai Vidhu was always there to guide, to talk things through and to encourage. Because of his guidance, my son assimilated into Peirce Secondary.

Thank you Mr Pillai, for helping my son to grow.

“Thank You For The Way You Motivate, Mr Jesper”

Joni Lim

I want to compliment Mr Jesper for the way he motivates his CCA students to dance. From a background in band, my daughter morphed into this dancer who practiced her move often at home, does exercises to improve her agility and watches her diet as her performance depends on it. My daughter even plans all her activities around her dance practices and performances—that is how much she loves dance today.

In addition to devoting long hours to dance practice, Jesper often buys tickets and treats his students to concerts so they can see how other people perform and improve.

Thank you for the way you motivate, Mr Jesper!

“Positive Encouragement”

Joni Lim

Mr Liu Zhenbo is the mother tongue language teacher for my daughter for the last one and a half years. Although my daughter struggled with Chinese in her primary school, she has developed a keen interest in learning Chinese in AMKSS, part of which, no doubt, is from the positive ways Mr Liu encourages his students to learn.

Mr Liu is always positive when giving feedback to parents and students, which provides the motivation for students to explore, ask questions and learn.

He is also very proactive and was the first to outline a plan when we brought special circumstances to his attention.

Thank you Mr Liu. When my daughter looks back at her life, she will remember your kindness and I hope that will help her call Singapore home.

“An Extraordinary Man Who Goes The Extra Mile”

Joni Lim

The Principal of Ang Mo Kio Secondary School, Mr Mannan is an extra-ordinary man who goes the extra mile. Recently my daughter, a student in the school, was diagnosed with a medical condition needing treatment which will put her out of school for quite a long period during term 3.

Mr Mannan quickly took time to assess her ability to cope given the timeout and rallied his staff and school counsellor so that my daughter can catch up with the school work.

My daughter has been really motivated to excel academically and in her CCA because of his leadership, and the teachers and staff he has put together. In the words of her dance teacher, she went from not knowing her tempo to performing in the school events.

I know that when my daughter looks back on her life in the future, she will remember these inspirational teachers who lovingly crafted her to be what she will be—and I hope she will be contributing much to Singapore and choose to make Singapore her abode of choice.

Thank you Mr Mannan!

“Thank You, Miss Wong”

I want to thank Miss Wong for the effort she had put into my girl and her class 1H. She is really efficient, helpful and friendly. We never regret putting my girl at Xingnan Pri Sch.

Thank you very much, Miss Lee.

“A Very Friendly Manager”

When I called up the school to speak to the administration manager, on the line was a very friendly manager who was able to provide me with the relevant and necessary information patiently regarding my son P1 registration.

Thank you very much, Miss Lee.

“Thank You Very Much”

I would like to take this opportunity to thank Mr Austin Cheang for helping me to check out some information regarding my son’s Primary 1 registration. He really made an effort to take down my name and handphone and get back to provide me with the information that I need.

Thank you very much.

“To Help Anyone who Needs Help”

I am grateful to Ms Lily Devan from Fuchun Pri School. Why am i grateful?

I am a parent of 3 kids and it’s a challenge putting them through school. There have been some periods where the school fees were running into arrears and the kids were also losing out on school activities. Fortunately, Lily understood my situation and exposed me to various assistance provided by the school and self-help groups like Sinda. Ms Lily made numerous calls to various agencies and made arrangements to ensure that my kids did not lose out on any activities conducted by the school. She even made calls to make sure that we are managing well.

From all my conversations with her and official visits to school, I can only describe one thing about her—she comes across as a genuine person with a motto to help anyone who needs the help. I think being a grandparent herself has helped her to understand the challenges young parents like me face.

To sum up, I want to say a big “Thank You” to her and her team at Fuchun Primary School. Kudos!

“Care, Concern and Communicate”

Siah Ing Khim

Teachers played an important role to groom our children into the future leaders. Both Mrs Marie Tan and Mdm Cheng Kah Yong are wonderful teachers who had help to create positive impact to the students in Townsville Primary School.

During the school’s education trip to Chinatown, I was so impressed to see that all the students from Primary 4 Hope were polite and well behaved. Everyone learned and enjoyed the trip in an orderly manner. Throughout the journey, Mrs Marie Tan did not raise her tone and was always putting up her beautiful smile, while maintaining the discipline of the students during the entire trip. One can sense her passion and love for the students.

Mrs Marie Tan is an organised teacher who ensures that the material for the students are well prepared before the class commences. She also communicates to parents in advance, the class’ forthcoming activities and examination schedules. She would call me immediately to update me on my son’s progress, and that allowed me to be mindful of my son’s feelings and to guide and support him where necessary.

I would like to thank Mrs Tan for grooming my son well academically, as well as uncovering his potential and talent. Most importantly, my son comes home everyday in a joyful mood, and has persevered to work hard towards his goal so as to adhere to the trust given by Mrs Tan. Mrs Tan had shown her leadership to care, concern and communicate well with both the students and the parents. Under her leadership, the students had learned to be more independent and to undertake a bigger responsibility for their duties. I am sure my son and his peers are proud to have her as their form teacher.

I also wish to highlight my appreciation to Mdm Cheng Kah Yong, who was my son’s Chinese teacher in Primary 3 Diligence last year. Mdm Cheng is a humorous and kind teacher who cares for her students. Chinese was deemed as a challenging subject for my son since he was young but Mdm Cheng transformed learning Chinese into a fun thing to do, and my son’s attitude changed since last year and started to show his enthusiasm in Chinese.

Despite her busy schedule, Mdm Cheng still made the extra effort to ensure the students revise and practice their work well, always rewarding the students with praise and encouragement. She is patient in helping her students overcome their difficulties. Although Mdm Cheng is strict, she is humorous in her teaching, which help encourage the students to look forward to learning Chinese. Under her effective teaching, my son improved tremendously in his SA2 Chinese last year, giving him more confidence in learning his mother tongue.

Both Mrs Tan and Mdm Cheng are marvellous teachers who not only help the students to excel academically. They also have a big and loving heart that care for the social and emotional factors for the students. Most importantly, they listened to the students with their hearts! These awesome teachers helped to inspire the students to be a better person in their future.

Thank you, Mrs Marie Tan! 谢谢您的教导!

“Motivating Children to Attain their Goal”

I would like to compliment Mrs Mary Augustine of CHIJ Our Lady of Good Counsel who taught my daughter Tamil in 2008/2009. Coming from an English speaking family, my daughter struggled with Tamil, but, with her dedication and passion she managed to get an A for her PSLE. I still remember the note she gave her graduating class who took Tamil. The note was nothing but full of encouragement and motivating them to excel. In one of the lines, she asked them to hang on in there with her and promised to do her best for them. She took the trouble to print out the note for each and everyone of them.

I met Mrs Mary Augustine in one of the Parents-Teachers-Meeting sessions in 2009, I thanked her for her good work she has done. While I was thanking her, she told me the following:

“I am doing all I can for my pupils because I love them so much. I love them with all my heart. Watching students grow and achieve greatness is one of the most rewarding part of my job.”

Besides that, she also distributed a note informing parents how to guide the girls to achieve an A* or A for the subject. My daugher pinned up both the notes in her study room. She appreciates her every moment and she attained an A for her Tamil in PSLE as she did not want disappoint her teacher.

“Strength, perseverance, resilience and patience ” is what Mrs Mary Augustine has. She is devoted, unselfish, kind and one who believes teaching is indeed a work of the heart.

At the end of the day, as an educator, the professionalism is not measured by the number of President’s scholars she produces but it is on the young lives she changes during her tenure of teaching. My daughter still treasures her and wrote about her in her recent SA1 composition. Thank you Mrs Mary Augustine! It is so nice to have educators like you around who slog very hard to motivate children to attain their goal.

Thank You & God Bless!

“Going the Extra Mile”

I am an aspiring teacher-to-be but due to my non-mainstream qualification, I was not allowed to teach a subject which I had studied during my post-graduate degree.

I am very fortunate to have spoken and written to Ms Jenny Koh from MOE’s HR Department as she helped me seek a review on my case. After the review, I was given a conditional opportunity to have my post-graduate degree recognised for my teaching subject selection—I had to pass the NIE Pre-selection Test.

For the past few years, I had attempted the test twice and had passed on both occasions. After each successful attempt, I would usually be invited for an interview. Ms Jenny Koh had gone beyond her duty to assist me in my journey to become a teacher.

Although I was not selected, I am still trying again and Ms Jenny Koh is still assisting me despite the long term follow-up.

I would like to take this opportunity to compliment her for the extra mile of service, to help us who aspire to be a teacher.

“Thank You Northland Primary School”

S. Malar

My three boys are from Northland Primary school and two of them have graduated. Let me relate my experience there.

The teachers of my older boys, Ms Lily Chua, Ms Gan Jumi, Ms Prema Suresh, Ms Thiru and Ms Jocelyn Tan, are excellent teachers. There are many teachers who love their job as it is their career; and there are some teachers who are genuine because they love and care for the children’s holistic development. These are the teachers. Let me salute these teachers for their passion for children. Well done.

A special mention to Miss Joycelyn Tan for her implementation of an academic progress checklist during the recent Parent-Teacher Meeting. This format highlights the students’ weak areas and also helps the parent see at a glance, the child’s position in each subject areas and the highest score in the class. For parents, this saves time and also gives an idea as to where the weaker areas of a pupil’s academic subject are. Excellent.

Thank You Northland Primary School. You have the best teachers.

“Ever Ready to Communicate”

Ms Gina Ho

I am the mother of a Primary One girl studying in CHIJ Toa Payoh and I am really glad to have been blessed with a great teacher like Miss Cindy Oo.

Not only has she captivated the hearts of the girls with her animated lessons and meaningful character development lessons within, and outside of the curriculum, she has also won the hearts of many parents in the class as she not only communicates through the mainstream channels of the school planner but also through Whatsapp.

More often than not, though our P1 girls try to communicate to us the messages which the teacher/ school wishes to convey to us, they will end up with confusing messages relayed to the parents. As much as possible, Miss Oo will always be quick to respond to our Whatsapp messages to clarify doubts so that we will receive the correct messages. We, parents of P1 Violet, even have an exclusive Whatsapp group which we can discuss with Miss Oo about school work so that everyone is clear of what is to be done in school.

Honestly, we all know that being a good teacher is difficult and time consuming. With this added effort by Miss Oo, who is ever ready to communicate with the parents, it has indeed shown that we have teachers who care for the students and also have the interests of the parents and school at heart.

Thank you Miss Oo, we love you because you are so awesome!

“Teachers who care”

Mr V Balu

My son is in Primary 6 with Townsville Primary School.

Recently, I had the opportunity to meet up with my son’s teachers during the “Meet-the-parents” session at 8 in the morning. His form teacher, Mdm Suhaizan and co-form teacher, Mr Quek updated me on his progress and performance in his subjects. They also described to me how my son was faring in class. My son is an average student who tries his best to excel in his subjects. At the beginning of this year, he was weak in his maths and had average scores for the other subjects during his exams.

I am impressed by the openness and approachability of the teachers as it helps foster positive relationships with the students. Together with the guidance and motivation of dedicated teachers like Mdm Suhaizan and Mr Quek, my son performed much better in his mid-year exams and made vast improvements, doing reasonably well in all his subjects. I have full faith and trust in them.

During class visits, I could feel the warmth and community bonding within the classroom. Mdm Suhaizan explained to me that they are doing all they can to propel students to greater heights by providing them with a holistic education curriculum. My son’s progress is certainly due to the efforts of good dedicated teachers like them. By touching base with parents who are working, like myself, such sessions give us peace of mind.

Students are nurtured by good teachers like them who possess the passion and serve as role models to others. These teachers facilitate the children’s love for learning, and are helpful and supportive of all children regardless of race and religion.

This year is crucial for my son and with such a dedicated team of educators, we are certain that my son will be much prepared and organised for his forthcoming PSLE. I am confident that he and the rest of the children are in the safe hands of the high-spirited teachers at Townsville Primary School.

I take this opportunity to thank your Ministry for a work well-executed.

“Just witnessed a wonderful act this morning”

Mr Ivan Lee

I just witnessed a wonderful act of service this morning, April 13, as I was driving my daughters to Bowen Secondary School.

As we approached the school’s main gate along Jalan Napiri, I saw two bags of discarded McDonald’s carrier bags lying on the road side, next to the curb just in front of Bowen Secondary School’s gate. Apparently some inconsiderate souls had McDonald’s take-away the night before and instead of throwing away the rubbish, left them on the road side.

Then came Mr. Bernard Chew, Principal of Bowen Secondary School. Without giving a second thought, he stooped down, stretched out his long sleeve-shirt and picked up those two McDonald’s bags and carried them back to the school to throw away. This act of service was also witnessed by my two daughters.

My! I am a trainer by profession and I go to many schools to train students in various life skills enrichment but many times I don’t see Principals walking their talk. But this time, the Principal, Mr. Chew, not only have been trying to inculcate strong values and character in his teachers and students, but he also leads by example. Most Principals would simply give orders for the cleaners to pick up the rubbish and throw it away, maintaining the school’s clean image without dirtying their hands, but not Mr. Chew, Principal of Bowen Secondary School.

I am very heartened that we have a Principal who not only cares for the school, teachers and students, but who has Walked-His-Talk. I am sharing this to encourage all Bowen ParentLink members to continue to work closely with Mr. Chew and give him our full support as we nurture and develop our youths of today to be responsible and dedicated men and women of tomorrow.
