MOE Teaching Award
Ministry of Education Teaching Award (MOE TA) recipients can look forward to a fulfilling career in the Education Service. They will be given opportunities for higher responsibilities according to their abilities. The full time undergraduate studies will be tenable at a local university.
Eligibility
Applicants must come from 1 of the categories below:
- ‘A’ Level or Polytechnic Diploma Holders;
- Good ‘A’ level/Polytechnic results or equivalent (e.g. International Baccalaureate);
- ‘A’ Level candidates should offer at least 10 academic units
- Qualify for entry into a local university; and
- Good Co-Curricular Activities record.
- Year 1 or Year 2 undergraduates pursuing Arts/Social Sciences or Science in the local universities;
- Currently reading at least 2 teaching subjects in the university;
- Good university results; and
- Good Co-Curricular Activities record.
- Year 3 undergraduates pursuing Arts / Social Sciences or Science in the local universities;
- Preferably those who qualify for the Honours Programme in AY 2008 / 2009;
- Candidates must major in at least 1 teaching subject during the undergraduate course; and
- The course pursued in the Honours Programme can be in a non-teaching subject.
- Honours undergraduates or Masters students pursuing Arts / Social Sciences, Science or Engineering in the local universities;
- Graduating with Honours or Masters in 2008;
- Candidates must major in at least 1 teaching subject during the undergraduate course or have pursued an Engineering undergraduate course. The course pursued in the Honours or Masters Programme can be in a non-teaching subject; and
- Candidates may apply in Semester 2 of their Honours year. Applications start in mid January 2007.
Course of Study
MOE Teaching Award recipients will be trained to teach 2 subjects (i.e. subjects in the curriculum of a secondary school / junior college) at NIE. The subjects include:
- Languages: English and Mother Tongue
- Humanities: Geography, History, Literature
- Arts: Fine Art, Music
- Sciences: Biology, Chemistry, Life Sciences, Physics
- Social Sciences: Psychology1, Economics
- Mathematics
The MOE Teaching Award currently does not offer Physical Education as a teaching subject.
Value of Award
For GCE ‘A’ Level / Polytechnic Diploma Holders, Year 1 or Year 2 undergraduates
- Tuition fees and other approved charges
- Annual maintenance allowance of S$5,000
- Book allowance of S$500 per annum
- Sponsorship for approved student exchange programme (if requirements are met)
- 50% Sponsorship of approved CCA activities, up to a maximum of 2 reimbursements, capped at S$500
Year 3 undergraduates (preferably those proceeding for Honours)
- Tuition fees and other approved charges
- Annual maintenance allowance of S$5,000 for the Honours year (if the Honours course pursued is in a teaching subject)
- Book allowance of S$500 per annum (if the Honours course pursued is in a teaching subject)
- 50% Sponsorship of approved CCA activities, up to a maximum of 2 reimbursements, capped at S$500 (if the Honours course pursued is in a teaching subject)
- S$6,000 paid in 2 tranches
Honours undergraduates / Masters graduates
- S$6,000 paid in 2 tranches
Length of Bond
Recipients of the MOE Teaching Award are required to serve a 4 year bond, regardless of award category.
Scholarship Applications
MOE Teaching Award applications for all 2007 GCE ‘A’ level graduates, current Year 1 to Year 4 undergraduates, Masters’ students and polytechnic diploma holders are now closed. We thank all applicants for their interest.
