Note to Parents/Guardians — Stepping Down of H1N1 Precautionary Measures
Dear Parents/Guardians
This letter is to update parents on how we are managing the H1N1 situation in our schools. The Ministry of Education has been monitoring the H1N1 situation closely in schools. We have observed a significant decline in the number of cases for H1N1 and influenza-like illnesses (ILI) over the past two weeks.
In consultation with the Ministry of Health, MOE has thus reviewed the H1N1 situation in schools and will be stepping down the precautionary measures in schools and kindergartens from 24 Aug 2009. However, as some special education children have underlying conditions that place them in the higher risk group, the precautionary measures in special education schools will be retained for the time being.
We will continue to remain vigilant and adjust our measures accordingly. As part of school’s preparedness to deal with disease outbreaks, schools will continue to keep their premises clean and to remind students to maintain high standards of personal hygiene. Schools will also conduct temperature taking exercises periodically. We seek parents’ continued cooperation in monitoring the health of your children and in not sending them to school if they are unwell. We will also look at the experiences gleaned and feedback received from schools and parents during the recent H1N1 outbreak to fine tune school operations in managing future disease outbreaks.
We would like to thank all parents for your understanding and support in safeguarding the well-being of our school community during the recent H1N1 outbreak. With everyone’s cooperation, we have managed to keep our schools open and ensured that learning has continued in the face of H1N1.
Should you have any queries, please contact your child’s school.
