List of External Degree Programmes (EDPs)
Local organisations representing overseas educational institutions offering their external degree programmes (EDPs) in Singapore should obtain MOE’s permission to do so on a programme-by-programme basis.
List of Registered EDPs
The list is sorted alphabetically by the name of the overseas institution.
- EDPs (A to L) (376kb .doc)
- EDPs (M to T) (332kb .doc)
- EDPs (U to Z) (404kb .doc)
The local parties, whether they are professional bodies or business organisations, provide the overseas educational institutions infrastructure support such as in the provision of requisite physical facilities and other logistics, promotion/publicity connected with student recruitment drives, liaison between the programme provider and their students here, etc.
As part of the registration process, MOE requires the foreign university offering the programme to be bona fide and that the award is conferred by the university. Registration of EDPs is not tantamount to accreditation or recognition by MOE.
As there is a wide variety of EDPs available, it is more practical for these programmes and their quality to be subject to the test of the market. The various efforts by the Consumers Association of Singapore (CASE), SPRING Singapore and the industry will also ensure better standards as well as to protect the interests of students.
CaseTrust for Education Scheme
The CaseTrust for Education scheme has been customised specifically by CASE to enhance the confidence of foreign students and their parents in ensuring that there are protection of student fees, transparency in transactions and fair contractual terms in our private schools in Singapore. For the list of CaseTrusted Private Education Organizations (PEO), please visit CASE’s website.
Singapore Quality Class (SQC) for PEO scheme
There is also the Singapore Quality Class (SQC) for PEO scheme to recognise PEO that have attained a commendable level of business excellence based on the Singapore Quality Award (SQA) framework and requirements in the private education sector. The scheme is administered by SPRING Singapore. For the list of SQC – PEO, please visit SPRING Singapore’s website.
Recognition/Accreditation
There is no central authority in Singapore that assesses or grants recognition for degrees obtained from overseas universities.
Recognition and/or acceptance of qualification/certification is entirely at the discretion of the individual prospective employer. For more information, refer to the FAQs on the accreditation of overseas universities.
In selecting an overseas institution for degree studies, it is advisable that students establish whether the institution is a bona fide educational establishment. On checking on the standing of the institution, students can check whether it is accredited/recognised by the home government of the country where it is located.
For example, for awards from US universities/institutions, the university/institution should be accredited by one of the following US accrediting associations in USA:
- Middle State Association of Colleges and Schools
- New England Association of Schools and Colleges
- North Central Association of Schools and Colleges
- Northwest Association of Schools and Colleges
- Southern Association of Colleges and Schools
- Western Association of Schools and Colleges
For awards from UK universities/institutions, the university/institution should be recognised by the UK Department for Education and Skills.
The above information is not exhaustive. Students may make enquiries on the overseas universities/institutions at the Embassy/High Commission of the country where the university is located.
