NEW STAMP ISSUE ON UNIFORMED GROUPS IN SCHOOLS TO BE UNVEILED

1.         A colourful new set of nine 2nd LocalPF[1]FP (32¢) stamps featuring all nine Uniformed GroupsTPF[2] FPT  in Singapore will be released for public sale on 19 Sep 07.  Each stamp illustrates a boy or girl from each uniformed group dressed smartly in full uniform with its respective crests. The stamp products available for this issue are the set of nine stamps, pre-cancelled first day cover and presentation pack. The graphics of the stamps and additional information can be found inAnnex A.

2.         RAdm (NS) Lui Tuck Yew, Minister of State, Ministry of Education, will unveil the new stamp issue on Sunday, 9 Sep 07, at Republic Polytechnic.

3.         The formation of Uniformed Groups (UGs) for students in schools was aimed at nurturing and developing youths into resilient, responsible, compassionate and proactive leaders through fun, challenging and comprehensive development programmes. These UGs are important platforms for the development of leadership, character and citizenship in our students so that they can make a difference to their community. Through varied and rigorous training, UGs provide members with knowledge, skills and meaningful lifelong experiences as well as inculcate in them a sense of pride and belonging to our nation.
