PERFORMANCE AT THE 19th INTERNATIONAL OLYMPIAD IN INFORMATICS
The Ministry of Education would like to congratulate the Singapore students who have won medals at the 19th International Olympiad in Informatics (IOI) held in Zagreb, Croatia, from 15 to 22 August 2007. Three students representing Singapore garnered a total of one Silver and two Bronze medals in a field of 288 students from 72 participating countries.
2. The Silver medalist is Foo Chuan Yu of Hwa Chong Institution. Lim Wei Quan of Hwa Chong Institution and Chiam Jia-Han of Raffles Institution each received a Bronze medal.
3. The IOI is an annual international competition in computer science where student contestants work individually on programming solutions to problem tasks. The students have to demonstrate skills in problem analysis, algorithm design, use of data structures and program testing. The primary goal of the IOI is to stimulate interest in computer science and information technology. It is also a platform that brings together exceptionally talented students from various countries, sharing scientific and cultural experiences with one another.
4. Our students' participation in the IOI is a joint effort between the Ministry of Education and the National University of Singapore.
