REVOCATION OF ACCREDITATION OF ALL PQAC-ACCREDITED COURSES RUN BY FROEBEL SCHOOL OF EDUCATION
1. The PQAC (Pre-school Qualification Accreditation Committee) has revoked the accreditation of the Diploma in Pre-school Education-Teaching (Chinese) conducted by Froebel School of Education (Froebel) with effect from 12 noon on Monday, 27 Aug 07. As such, certificates awarded for this course after the point of revocation will not be recognised by PQAC, the Ministry of Community Development, Youth and Sports and the Ministry of Education.
2. The revocation arises from Froebel’s failure to meet four of the PQAC Standards. These pertain to the administration of courses, modes of assessment and supervised teaching practice, quality of faculty, as well as facilities and resources. The PQAC came to this conclusion after a thorough review during which PQAC sought to verify Froebel’s compliance with PQAC Standards.
3. PQAC met with the students currently enrolled in Froebel’s Diploma in Pre-school Education-Teaching (Chinese) course in the afternoon of Mon, 27 Aug 07. The purpose of the session was to clarify any concerns the students might have with regard to the revocation of accreditation of the course. The students have expressed their desire to continue their studies in other schools offering similar courses. PQAC has assisted the students with information on schools that are willing to consider taking them in.
Background
4. The PQAC was set up in January 2001 to oversee the standards and quality of pre-school teacher training for both the kindergarten and child care sectors in Singapore. The role of PQAC is to assess and accredit pre-school teacher training certificate and diploma level courses. The PQAC is jointly steered by the Ministry of Community Development, Youth and Sports and the Ministry of Education. Members of the committee include officials from the two ministries, early childhood education specialists and industry representatives.
