Secondary One Posting Exercise To Be Made More Convenient For Parents

1. Parents of Primary 6 pupils will have an additional channel of submitting their child’s school choices for the Secondary One posting exercise at the end of this year. The Ministry of Education (MOE) will be introducing a new Internet System to make it more convenient for parents to be able to submit their child’s Secondary One school choices online.

2. The new Internet System will also give parents the option of checking their child’s Secondary One posting results online. Parents can alternatively check the posting results via a new Secondary One Telephone Interactive Voice Response System, also to be launched at the end of this year, or as in previous years, go down to their child’s primary school to find out the posting results.

Ms Lim Huay Chih, Director, School Planning and Placement Division, Ministry of Education, said, “With the refinements made to the Secondary One posting process, parents now have the option of not having to make physical trips to their child’s primary school to submit the school options or to find out their child’s posting results. This is part of MOE’s efforts to improve service delivery and increase convenience to parents through offering an additional channel.”

4. Parents of a Primary 6 pupil will be issued with a unique Secondary One Personal Identification Number (or S1 PIN) later this year, together with their child’s Primary School Leaving Examinations (PSLE) results. This S1 PIN will enable parents to register their school choices for their child using the new Internet System. Parents are advised to keep their PIN confidential.

5. Parents using the Internet System are strongly encouraged to complete the hardcopy worksheet in the Secondary One posting exercise booklet before they log into the system to submit their school options for their child. The hardcopy worksheet provides a useful guide to parents and will reduce the time parents need to complete the online application. The online screen shots of the application and posting results release processes are shown at Annex A and Annex B respectively.

6. Staff at the primary schools will be on hand during the application and posting results release periods to provide assistance to parents if required. MOE and the schools will also support parents who would like to use the Internet System but have problems doing so. Parents can refer to the Internet System website or contact MOE’s Customer Service Centre for assistance.

7. Parents who wish to use hardcopy forms to submit their child’s school options to the primary school can still do so. The Secondary One posting exercise procedures remains unchanged.

8. Details of the Secondary One posting exercise and the Secondary One Internet System will be provided in the Secondary One posting exercise booklet, which will be distributed to all Primary 6 pupils by end of September.

9. The Secondary One posting exercise is an annual posting exercise conducted by MOE to post Primary 6 pupils, who have passed their PSLE, to a secondary school based on merit and their school choices. Currently, parents have to make a trip to their child’s primary school to submit their school options after the release of the PSLE results, and another trip to collect their child’s Secondary One posting results when it is released.
