Choose Secondary Schools after the Release Of PSLE Results in 2003
From next year, 2003, all pupils sitting for the PSLE will choose their secondary schools after the release of the PSLE results. This will replace the current process where PSLE students choose their secondary schools in August, before the start of the PSLE. This new procedure will apply from the group that is sitting for the PSLE in 2003.
2. The introduction of a post-PSLE results school option exercise for posting to Secondary One is an initiative by MOE to improve its service to parents and pupils. This change will enable parents and pupils to decide on their choices of secondary schools with more information.
3. This improvement is made possible with the full rollout of the Integrated Examinations System (IES) in 2003. IES streamlines some of the examination procedures and allows more efficient management of the PSLE processes.
4. While the rollout of IES will shorten the PSLE process, care has been taken to ensure that the integrity and accuracy of the examination processes are not compromised.
5. The existing posting policies will remain unchanged. Posting will continue to be based on merit, and all pupils will still be given six choices in the new post-PSLE option exercise.
6. Under the new framework, PSLE results will be released soon after the last day of the school year. Thereafter, parents and pupils will be given 4 working days to make their school choices. Posting results will be released before Christmas Day, as per current practice. Further details of the new option exercise will be announced to parents and pupils through the schools at a later date.
