Director-General of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) to Visit Singapore

Mrs Irina Bokova, Director-General of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), will visit Singapore on 30 April 2010 at the invitation of Dr Ng Eng Hen, Minister for Education and Second Minister for Defence and Chairman of the Singapore National Commission for UNESCO. This is Mrs Bokova’s first visit to Southeast Asia since her election as Director-General of UNESCO in November 2009.

During her visit, Mrs Bokova will call on Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong and have a working lunch hosted by Dr Ng Eng Hen. She will visit the National Institute of Education. She will also give a public lecture on “UNESCO’s role in the 21st century: Education, Science and Culture for sustainable development, peace and dialogue” at the Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy. The lecture is jointly organised by the Singapore National Commission for UNESCO and the Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy.
