Release of the 2009 Primary School Leaving Examination Results
Pupils collected their Primary School Leaving Examination (PSLE) results from their respective primary schools today.
Performance of 2009 Primary 6 Cohort 1, 2
The 2009 Primary 6 cohort is the first batch of pupils under Subject-based Banding who sat for the PSLE. Subject-based Banding, a refinement to the previous streaming system, was implemented from the 2008 Primary 5 cohort to give pupils the flexibility of taking a mix of subjects at Standard or Foundation levels depending on their strengths and abilities in each subject.
A total of 48,541 Primary 6 pupils sat for the PSLE this year. Among these pupils, 47,117 pupils (or 97.1%) are assessed as suitable to proceed to secondary school. In terms of course eligibility, 63.1% are eligible for the Express course, 22.4% for the Normal (Academic) and 11.6% for the Normal (Technical) course.
There are 1,424 pupils (or 2.9%) who are assessed to be not yet ready for secondary school in 2010 or more suited for vocational training. Of these, pupils who have attempted PSLE once and are not overaged can choose to apply to Assumption Pathway School (APS) or NorthLight School (NLS) based on recommendations of their primary school principals, or spend another year in Primary 6 to consolidate their learning. The remaining pupils are those who have unsuccessfully attempted PSLE repeatedly and are overaged. These pupils will be offered a place in APS or NLS.
2009 Secondary One Posting Exercise
Pupils who are eligible to progress to secondary school based on their PSLE results also received their sealed option forms to select secondary schools from their respective primary schools today. Pupils are required to hand the option forms to their parents. Parents can submit their choices of secondary schools for their child online via the Secondary One Internet System (S1-IS) that is accessible 24 hours a day from 12.00 noon today to 3.00 pm on 2 December 2009. Alternatively, parents may submit their child’s secondary school options through their child’s primary school. Submission at the primary schools started from 12.00 noon to 3.00 pm today; and will continue from 9.00 am to 3.00 pm between 30 November and 2 December 2009.
The Secondary One posting results will be released on Tuesday, 22 December 2009. Pupils are to report to the secondary schools they are posted to on Wednesday, 23 December 2009 at 8.30 am.
