Results of the 2008 Singapore-Cambridge GCE A-Level Examination
The Singapore-Cambridge General Certificate of Education Advanced Level (GCE A-Level) Examination is conducted jointly by the University of Cambridge Local Examinations Syndicate, the Ministry of Education and the Singapore Examinations and Assessment Board (SEAB).
The results of the 2008 and 2007 GCE A-Level Examinations for school candidates are as follows:
| Year | No. Sat | At least 3 H2 passes, with a pass in General Paper (GP) or Knowledge and Inquiry (KI) | |
|---|---|---|---|
| No. | % | ||
| 2008* | 14,463 | 12,688 | 87.7 |
| 2007 | 13,053 | 11,418 | 87.5 |
School candidates have been issued with their results slips by their respective schools from 2:30 pm today. Private candidates will receive their results by post. Private candidates may also access their results through the SEAB website from 2:30 pm today.
The A-Level curriculum was revised in 2006, with the first cohort of candidates taking their examinations in 2007. Under the revised curriculum, school candidates are required to offer:
- at least 3 H2 and 1 H1 content-based subjects, of which at least one must be a contrasting subject;
- GP or KI;
- Project Work; and
- Mother Tongue Language (school candidates who had obtained D7 or better in Higher Mother Tongue Language at O-Level are exempted from taking this examination)
To better reflect the intent of the revised A-Level curriculum, which emphasises both breadth and depth, MOE introduced the new indicator of “percentage of candidates obtaining at least 3 H2 passes, with a pass in GP or KI”, with effect from the 2007 GCE A-Level Examination. This summary indicator for A-Level performance is aligned to the revised criteria for A-Level candidates to repeat their JC21.
Footnote
- The previous indicator of at least 2 A and 2 AO passes, including GP, was also based on the JC repeat criteria. ↵
