The closing date for nomination is Friday, 23 January 2009.

The winners of OYEA 2009 will be announced and presented with the awards at the National Institute of Education’s Teachers’ Investiture Ceremony in July 2009.

Background

Administered by The National Youth Council and supported by Teachers Network, Training and Development Division of the Ministry of Education, the OYEA is a national award which honours the achievements of young educators. It recognises the enthusiasm, energy and active involvement of exceptional young teachers in the development of youth beyond the formal education curriculum. It also serves to inspire youths to take up a teaching career and become an excellent role model for the younger generation. Since its inception in 1999, 27 inspiring and outstanding young teachers have received the OYEA.

For OYEA 2008, 301 teachers were nominated—93 from primary schools, 194 from secondary schools, and 14 from the Junior Colleges and Centralised Institute. Three teachers received the OYEA 2008 from Dr Ng Eng Hen, Minister for Education, at the National Institute of Education’s Teachers’ Investiture Ceremony held on 08 July 2008.
