Inaugural Joint HPB-MOE CHERISH Award
The Health Promotion Board (HPB) and the Ministry of Education (MOE) have recognised the efforts of 289 primary and secondary schools and junior colleges in promoting health by conferring on them the first Joint HPB-MOE CHERISH (CHampioning Efforts Resulting in Improved School Health) Award.
Previously an annual award granted by HPB, the CHERISH Award was renamed the Joint HPB-MOE CHERISH Award to mark the strategic integration of health and education to encourage more schools to embed health within their ethos, mission and vision and to focus on holistic health.
The Joint HPB-MOE CHERISH Award is a biennial award which aims to recognise the efforts of schools in planning and implementing sustainable and comprehensive health promotion programmes for students, staff and the community and in strengthening their collaborative culture through active partnerships with parents, families, the wider community and relevant health promoting organisations.
More than 300 schools participated in the Joint HPB-MOE CHERISH Award this year. This is an almost four-fold increase from the 84 schools that participated in the CHERISH Award in 2001, reflecting the increase in commitment and quality of school health promotion programmes. Of the 289 schools that will be receiving the award this year, two schools will be awarded Platinum status, 30 schools Gold status, 123 schools Silver status and 134 schools Bronze status.
The Holistic Health Framework, which was introduced in schools in 2007, is aligned with the criteria of the Joint HPB-MOE CHERISH award. This alignment helps schools to adopt a clear and consistent focus in holistic health development for students, staff and the community of schools.
