Release of the 2007 Singapore-Cambridge GCE A-Level Examination Results

The Singapore-Cambridge General Certificate of Education Advanced Level Examination is conducted jointly by the University of Cambridge Local Examinations Syndicate, the Ministry of Education and the Singapore Examinations and Assessment Board.

The A-level curriculum was revised in 2006, with the first cohort of candidates taking their examinations in 2007. Under the revised curriculum, school candidates are required to offer:

  1. at least 3 Higher 2 (H2) and 1 Higher 1 (H1) content-based subjects, of which at least one must be a contrasting subject;
  2. General Paper (GP) or Knowledge and Inquiry (KI);
  3. Project Work (PW); and
  4. Mother Tongue Language (school candidates who had obtained D7 or better in Higher Mother Tongue Language at O-level are exempted from taking this examination)

To better reflect the intent of the revised A-level curriculum, which emphasises both breadth and depth, MOE has introduced a new indicator of “percentage of candidates obtaining at least 3 H2 passes, with a pass in GP or KI”, with effect from the 2007 GCE A-level Examination. This indicator, as shown in Table 1, is aligned to the revised criteria for A-level candidates to repeat their JC21. This new indicator will be used henceforth as the summary indicator for A-level performance.

The revised A-level curriculum is not directly comparable with the previous A-level curriculum, given the extensive changes to the curriculum structure. However, as a rough proxy for overall performance, the percentage of students who obtained passes in at least 3 H2 subjects and pass in GP/KI in the 2007 GCE A-level examinations was similar to the proportion who obtained passes in at least 3 A-level and GP in 2006. These are shown in Tables 1 & 2 below.

As this is the first cohort of students under the new A-level curriculum, we have also shown the percentage of those obtaining at least 2H2 and 2H1 passes including pass in GP/KI. This is to provide some broad comparison in order to provide the context for interpreting the A-level results. These are shown in Tables 3 & 4 below. These two sets of indicators are not directly comparable, as the structure and requirements of the 2007 GCE A-level Examination are different from those of previous years.

School candidates have been issued their results by their respective junior colleges and centralised institute. Private candidates will receive their results by post. Private candidates may also access their results through the Internet on the day of release of results.
