Visit by Mr Tharman Shanmugaratnam,

Minister for Education, to US, 10-17 May 2006

1. Mr Tharman Shanmugaratnam, Minister for Education, will visit the United States from 10 to 17 May 2006. Mr Shanmugaratnam will visit a number of top US educational institutions in Boston to strengthen partnerships in education and research. He will also be meeting with financial institutions in New York.

2. In Boston, Mr Shanmugaratnam’s visits will include the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT); Wheelock College, a leading training institution for pre-school educators; and Philips Academy Andover, a highly reputed American high school. He will also be having discussions with Prof Robert Brown, President of Boston University, who has agreed to chair the Ministry of Education’s Academic Research Council.

3. Mr Shanmugaratnam will be accompanied by officials from the Ministry of Education while in Boston.
