RAFFLES JUNIOR COLLEGE CHAMPION AT THE JUNIOR COLLEGES DEBATING CHAMPIONSHIP 2005

 

 

Raffles Junior College has emerged as Champion of the Junior Colleges Debating Championship 2005, which was held on 30 July 2005. The Best Speaker for the Debating Series and Finals was Suhas Malhotra, 17, from Raffles Junior College. The finalist teams, from Hwa Chong Institution and Raffles Junior College, debated the motion, “This House Believes That Copyright Will Be The Death of Knowledge.”  Ms Seah Jiak Choo, Director-General of Education, was the Guest of Honour for the Finals.

 

2.         The Junior Colleges Debating Championship 2005 began with a series of preliminary rounds starting from 9 July 2005, and saw 16 junior colleges and Millennia Institute fielding a team each. The defending champion was Anglo-Chinese Junior College. The 2005 debate series was jointly organised by the Ministry of Education and Pioneer Junior College.

 

3.         The aim of the Junior Colleges Debating Championship, which was started in 1994, is to promote independent and critical thinking, as well as debating skills among our pre-university students. The best debaters will be selected from this competition to represent Singapore at international debating events, such as the World Schools Debating Championship, which will be held in July 2006 in Cardiff, Wales.
