VISIT BY MR CHAN SOO SEN, MINISTER OF STATE FOR EDUCATION, TO PRC, 19-24 JULY 2005

 

 

Mr Chan Soo Sen, Minister of State for Education, will be visiting Beijing and Shandong, PRC, from 19-24 July 2005 on education matters.

 

2.                   Mr Chan will be attending the 1st World Chinese Conference in Beijing, organised by the China National Office for Teaching Chinese as a Foreign Language (NOCFL), from 20 to 22 July 2005. Mr Chan will give an address during the conference on 21 July 2005 to share Singapore’s experience in teaching CL with the other delegates.

 

3.                   On 20 July 2005, Mr Chan will also witness the signing of a Framework Agreement between Nanyang Technological University and Shandong University to promote academic, scientific and cultural collaboration between the two universities.

 

4.                   One of the projects the two universities will engage in is the establishment of Confucius Institute in Singapore. This institute will be presented with official endorsement during the World Chinese Conference, together with more than ten Confucius Institutes in various parts of the world.   

 

5.                   Mr Chan will visit Shandong University in Jinan on 22 July 2005.  At Jinan, Mr Chan will also meet with senior officials to discuss bilateral projects. Mr Chan is also co-Chairman of the Singapore Shandong Business Council.

 

6.                   Mr Chan will be accompanied by officials from Ministry of Education, Nanyang Technological University, and International Enterprise Singapore.
