PERFORMANCE AT THE 2004 INTERNATIONAL OLYMPIAD IN INFORMATICS

1. The Ministry of Education would like to congratulate the Singapore students who have won medals at the 16th International Olympiad in Informatics (IOI).

2.  The 16th IOI was held in Athens, Greece from 11 to 18 September 2004. Two students representing Singapore received awards in a field of 296 student participants from 78 countries.

3. The Gold medallist is Daniel Chia Jin Hao of Raffles Institution. The Bronze medallist is Tam Wai Lun of Hwa Chong Junior College.

4. In terms of medals won, Singapore was placed 16th out of the 78 participating countries. The top three countries were China, Russia and the United States of America.

5. The delegation leaders were Dr Tan Sun Teck from the National University of Singapore, and Mr Chia Keng Hian from Hwa Chong Junior College.

6. Our students' participation in the International Olympiad in Informatics is a joint effort between the Ministry of Education and the National University of Singapore.
