3rd APEC EDUCATION MINISTERIAL MEETING, SANTIAGO, CHILE, 29-30 APRIL 2004

Acting Minister for Education, Mr Tharman Shanmugaratnam, will be attending the 3rd APEC  Education Ministerial Meeting (AEMM) in Santiago, Chile, on 29-30 April 2004.  He will be accompanied by officials from the Ministry of Education.

2. APEC comprises 21 member economies from the Asia-Pacific region.  It serves as a platform for multilateral cooperation within the region, in areas such as trade, human resource development and education.  The AEMM is a meeting of Education Ministers from APEC member economies, to share perspectives on education and discuss programmes for education co-operation among APEC member economies.  Singapore hosted the 2nd AEMM in April 2000.
