VISIT TO CHINA BY MINISTER OF STATE FOR EDUCATION MR CHAN SOO SEN FROM 5 TO 15 JANUARY 2004

1.        Minister of State for Education and Community Development and Sports, Mr Chan Soo Sen, will be visiting China, specifically Suzhou, Shanghai and Beijing, from 5 to 15 January 2004 on the invitation of Mr Zhang Xin Sheng, Vice-Minister for Education (People's Republic of China).

2.        In Beijing, Mr Chan will meet with senior officials from the PRC Education Ministry. In Shanghai and Suzhou, he will have dialogues with the officials of the Shanghai Education Commission and Suzhou City Education Bureau respectively.

3.        During the trip, Mr Chan will also visit several schools, such as Beijing Fangcaodi Primary School, and universities, like Fudan and Beijing Normal University. This visit will allow Mr Chan to learn from China's experience in Chinese Language education and find out about the latest education developments such as innovative teaching methods.

4.        Mr Chan will be accompanied by a delegation of officials from the Ministry of Education.
