VISIT TO CHINA BY ACTING MINISTER FOR EDUCATION MR THARMAN SHANMUGARATNAM, FROM 3 TO 8 NOVEMBER 2003

              Acting Minister for Education Mr Tharman Shanmugaratnam will be visiting China from 3 to 8 November 2003 to strengthen educational ties and exchanges.

2.           Mr Shanmugaratnam will meet with PRC Education Minister Mr Zhou Ji. He will visit several top Chinese schools, and Peking and Tsinghua universities, to learn about latest education developments there, and promote closer exchanges and collaboration with Singapore schools and universities.

3.           Mr Shanmugaratnam will also launch NTU's Nanyang Executive Master in Business Administration (EMBA) programme at the Shanghai Jiaotong University.

4.           During the trip, he will also visit Tianjin and meet with Mayor Dai Xianglong.

5.           Mr Shanmugaratnam will also take the opportunity to meet with Singapore students in Beijing, and Singaporeans living in Shanghai. He will be accompanied on the trip by officials from the Ministry of Education.
