Collusion Found in the Coursework Component of
the GCE N Level EOA Examination
The University of Cambridge Local Examinations Syndicate (UCLES) has informed the Ministry of Education (MOE) that it has found evidence of collusion in the coursework component of the 2002 GCE N Level Elements of Office Administration (EOA). UCLES has found implausibly similar or identical pieces of work among 158 candidates' submissions, including sets of identical mistakes.
2. MOE and UCLES do not tolerate any collusion in our examinations and will take stern action against anyone who infringes the rules and regulations. UCLES has decided not to award a grade for the EOA subject to these 158 candidates. This will be denoted by an 'X' in their results slip. These candidates' results for their other subjects are not affected. The absence of a grade for EOA will not affect any candidate's ability to proceed to the next level of education, provided that their results for the other subjects meet the promotion criteria.
3. The Ministry assures the public that the integrity of our national examinations has not been and will not be compromised. Notwithstanding, MOE will work together with UCLES to review and tighten the procedures, if necessary, for the conduct of coursework. MOE will also, as part of its follow-up, initiate further investigation into the collusion and take appropriate disciplinary actions against staff members, if any misconduct or negligence is found on their part.
