4TH APPOINTMENT CEREMONY FOR PRINCIPALS

1.      71 principals will be appointed for Academic Year 2002 at the Ministry of Education's Appointment Ceremony for Principals, 2002 on 28 Dec 2001. The Guest-of-Honour for the event is the Minister for Education, RAdm Teo Chee Hean.

2.      At this year's Appointment Ceremony, 27 principals are newly-appointed and 44 are principals rotated to another school. Six principals have been posted to junior colleges, 27 to secondary schools and 38 to primary schools. The number of principals appointed for 2002 is comparable to the number of principals appointed in the past two years.

3.      The Appointment Ceremony for Principals is an annual event, inaugurated in 1998. The ceremony formally marks the occasion when the Ministry of Education entrusts school principals with the responsibility of leading their schools to help their students achieve the Desired Outcomes of Education.

4.      The annual new appointment and rotation of principals enables schools to benefit from the infusion of fresh perspectives and also gives Education Officers opportunities for different challenges as part of their career development. These principals will uphold the traditions and ethos of the schools that they have been entrusted with and also introduce innovative systemic improvements to their schools.
