THE SUSTAINED ACHIEVEMENT AWARD 2001 AND THE INAUGURAL BEST PRACTICE AWARD 2001
1. The Ministry of Education's (MOE) Masterplan of Awards was instituted in late 1998. This system of awards is part of the implementation of the School Excellence Model (SEM), which provides a holistic approach to education with equal emphasis on processes as well as results.
2. The Sustained Achievement Award (SAA) and the Best Practice Award (BPA) are the middle-level awards under this Masterplan of Awards. While the SAAs reward schools that have excellent results in different areas over a period of time, the BPAs give recognition to schools with effective practices and systems that lead to desirable academic and non-academic educational outcomes. The first SAAs were given in 1999 for excellent performance in the following areas: Academic Value-added results, Arts, Physical Fitness, Sports and Uniformed Group activities.
3. This year, MOE will be giving out the inaugural BPA.
4. There are 4 categories of BPA. They are:
a) Organisational Effectiveness
b) Student All-round Development
c) Staff Well-being
d) Teaching and Learning
They represent MOE's expectations of schools and reflect the key areas in the SEM (refer to Information Sheeton BPA).
