Singapore hosts second IT Exchange Programme for Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Educators (13 Aug to 24 Aug 2001)
The second APEC Educators Exchange Programme on "The Use of Information Technology in a Learning Society" will be held in Singapore from 13 Aug to 24 Aug 2001. Hosted by the Ministry of Education (MOE), it aims to help educators harness the potential of Information Technology (IT) to enhance teaching and learning and to promote life-long learning, a strategic area identified at the 2nd APEC Education Ministerial Meeting (AEMM) held in Singapore in April 2000.
2 The programme is open to educators involved in integrating technology into the curriculum. Thirteen educators from seven economies, namely Australia, Brunei Darussalam, Hong Kong SAR, Malaysia, People's Republic of China, Philippines and Thailand, are participating in the two-week programme.
3 The two-week programme will offer all participants the opportunity to engage in dialogues with MOE officers on the implementation of the Masterplan for IT in Education in schools. In addition, visits to educational institutions will provide further opportunities for participants to interact with school leaders, teachers and students. Part of the programme will involve visits to our industry partners. The programme will culminate in a sharing session by educators of APEC member economies on good practices in the use of IT in education.
4 This is the second of four such programmes that will be offered for two years from 2001 to 2002 during the months of April and August. Nine educators from six different economies participated in the first exchange programme. It had provided them an opportunity to meet, learn and share insights of harnessing IT to build and support the communities of learners in each of their economies. The exchange of ideas and learning provided a rich environment for further communication and interaction, and was also a springboard for new and innovative ideas and collaborative efforts amongst schools and organisations in the APEC member economies.
