1. Deputy Prime Minister/Minister for Defence Dr Tony Tan will be visiting higher education institutions in the United States of America from 7-14 April 2001. He will be leading a delegation to study higher education trends in the US, and, in particular, to learn more about the Californian state university systems. He will be visiting Seattle, Los Angeles and San Francisco.
2. DPM Tan will be meeting senior administrative personnel of the following institutions:
a. University of Washington, Seattle;
b. University of California System;
c. California State University System.
3. DPM Tan will be holding discussions with them on issues pertaining to higher education. Key discussion topics will include the latest developments in the US Higher Education sector, education of the professional disciplines, the issues of university-industry links, as well as provisions for continuing and education training within the higher education system.
4. In Seattle, DPM Tan will also be calling on Governor of Washington State, Gary Locke, as well as visiting The Boeing Company and Microsoft Corporation headquarters. DPM Tan will also be meeting the Singapore American Business Association in San Francisco.
5. The delegation led by DPM Tan will comprise officials from MOE and our universities and polytechnics (NUS, NTU, SMU and Ngee Ann Polytechnic). Annex Aprovides a list of delegates accompanying DPM Tan.
