3RD APPOINTMENT CEREMONY FOR PRINCIPALS

1.      73 principals were appointed for Academic Year 2001 at the Ministry of Education's Appointment Ceremony for Principals, 2001 on 29 Dec 2000. These principals were presented with their Certificates of Appointment by the Director-General of Education, Mr Wee Heng Tin, during the ceremony. The Guest-of-Honour for the event was the Minister for Education, RAdm Teo Chee Hean.

2.     At this year's Appointment Ceremony, 31 principals were newly-appointed and 42 were principals to be rotated to another school. Two principals would be posted to junior colleges, 33 to secondary schools and 38 to primary schools. The number of principals appointed for 2001 was comparable to the number of principals appointed in the past two years.

3.      The Appointment Ceremony for Principals is an annual event, inaugurated in 1998. The ceremony formally marks the occasion when the Ministry of Education entrusts school principals with the great responsibility of leading their schools. This ceremony is held to acknowledge the important role school principals play in building up effective schools.

4.      The annual new appointment and rotation of principals enables schools to benefit from the infusion of fresh perspectives and also gives Education Officers opportunities for different challenges as part of their career development. These principals will uphold the traditions and ethos of the schools that they have been entrusted with and also introduce innovative systemic improvements to their schools.
