Reasoning Test for new University Admission System
SAT I Chosen as the Reasoning Test for University Admission from 2003

Implementing the new university admission system
  1. The Ministry of Education and the universities have decided that the reasoning test to be used for university admission from 2003 will be the Scholastic Assessment Test I (SAT I). This is a verbal and mathematical reasoning test offered by the College Board in New York, USA and developed and administered by the Educational Testing Service (ETS) based in New Jersey, USA.

  2. ETS has chosen a local programme representative in Singapore to administer the SAT I. The programme representative, Centre for Testing and Assessment Pte. Ltd. (CTA), is a private company set up by the universities to administer the reasoning test.

    Background

  3. In July 1999, the Government accepted the recommendation of the Committee on University Admission System to use a reasoning test, project work and co-curricular activities to supplement the ‘A’ Levels as admission criteria for the National University of Singapore and the Nanyang Technological University. The new admission system moves away from the current sole reliance on the GCE ‘A’ Levels examination, and is in line with our Thinking Schools, Learning Nation vision and The Desired Outcomes of Education. By making reasoning tests, project work and co-curricular activities count, the admission system will encourage students, teachers and parents to re-focus on the holistic development of our young people.

  4. More detailed information on the CTA and its services, the SAT I, test registration and test fees can be found on CTA’s web-site at www.cta.com.sg.
