The Learning Metropolis

 

1. The Ministry of Education and HQLink Pte Ltd will be organising "The Learning Metropolis", an exhibition that will feature teaching and learning activities in schools and institutions of higher learning. The exhibition is a reflection of our vision of "Thinking Schools, Learning Nation" and showcases the achievements of our schools in the pursuit of the Desired Outcomes of Education. The Learning Metropolis Exhibition will be held from 7 to 11 Apr 2000 at Singapore International Convention and Exhibition Centre, Level 6, Halls 602-603.

 

2. The exhibition uses the metaphor of a bustling metropolis with 6 sectors focussing on different aspects of learning (See Annex A for more details):

 

Town Square provides information on the Ministry's overall mission and vision in preparing our children for the world of tomorrow.
Techno Plaza showcases programmes that prepare the child for the technological world.
Heartland focuses on the development of moral values, strong character and healthy habits.
Arts in the Park emphasises the aesthetic development of the child.
Enterprise Hub features activities that develop the spirit of enterprise and skills for a knowledge-based economy.
QuestLink features the quest for knowledge through collaboration in a globalised world.
 

 

3. About 200 exhibits and performances from more than 100 schools, polytechnics, the ITE and institutions of higher learning will provide a glimpse of the learning experience in Singapore, over the 5-day event. Like all towns and cities, The Learning Metropolis will also feature a Market Place where visitors can shop for the latest educational resources, equipment, books and services.

 

4. The exhibition will be opened to the public on 7 Apr from 2 pm to 9 pm, 8 Apr to 10 Apr from 10 am to 9 pm, and on 11 Apr from 10 am to 6 pm. Admission is free. Further information on The Learning Metropolis can be obtained from the website at http:/www1.moe.edu.sg/tlm

A whole new educational experience will unfold in April 2000 at The Learning Metropolis (TLM). This premier event, held parallel to the 2nd APEC Education Ministerial Meeting, as well as the Education 2000 Conference, will feature teaching and learning activities in schools and institutes of higher learning that reflect our vision of "Thinking Schools, Learning Nation". The Learning Metropolis will be bustling with learning experiences supported by a myriad of resources and extensive infrastructure.

From 7 to 11 April 2000, Halls 602 and 603 of Suntec City will be turned into a vibrant township, with a hive of activity in The Learning Pavilion and The Market Place.

 

The Learning Pavilion

Organised to resemble entities of a metropolis, this section comprises 6 different sectors, each focusing on a particular aspect of education in Singapore.

 

 

Town Square is the nerve centre of the metropolis, focusing on the mission, vision and goals of education in Singapore. Watch the TLM Channel crew in action as they bring you the latest happenings in The Learning Metropolis.
Arts in the Park emphasises the aesthetic development of the child. Enjoy exciting performances by students at The Park Stage. Learn and interact with budding artists around Trees of Arts and Creativity Stage.
Enterprise Hub features activities that develop the spirit of enterprise. Learn more about the world of e-commerce at E-Commerce Mall and view remarkable projects and initiatives at Innovation Avenue and Collaboration Post.
Techno Plaza showcases programmes that prepare the child for the technological world. Have close encounters with robots in Robot World or experience learning with technology at Learning Stations. Catch films created by students and hear them talk about their movie-making experiences at Movie House.
Heartland focuses on the development of moral values, strong character and healthy habits of the child. Learn good values and view projects by students about the environment and our heritage at Character Centre. Make a wish and share good values learnt at Fountain of Values. Participate in healthy activities and learn more about healthy lifestyles at The Stadium.
QuestLink features the quest for knowledge through collaboration in a globalised world. Experience learning through collaboration at V Junction and Global Connection. See how students learn through their projects at Discovery Space
The Market Place

After an all-encompassing experience, visitors can hop over to The Market Place to indulge in a totally different activity: shopping. The Market Place presents the latest educational learning resources, equipment, books and services.
