2000 SINGAPORE-CAMBRIDGE GENERAL CERTIFICATE OF EDUCATION (NORMAL LEVEL) EXAMINATION

        15,723 pupils in the Secondary 4 Normal Course sat the 2000 Singapore-Cambridge GCE Normal Level Examination in September/October this year. Of these, 10,071 pupils were from the Normal (Academic) Course and 5,652 pupils were from the Normal (Technical) Course. This is the fourth year that pupils from the Normal (Technical) Course sat the examination.

2.     A certificate is awarded to a candidate who obtains a Grade 5 or better in at least one subject. 10,000 (99.3%) pupils from the Normal (Academic) Course and 5,541 (98.0%) pupils from the Normal (Technical) Course are awarded certificates in the 2000 examination.

3.      Pupils in the Normal (Academic) Course who obtain an aggregate not exceeding 10 points in their 3 best subjects and a Grade 5 or better in English Language (Syllabus A) will be promoted to the Secondary 5 Normal Course in 2001. 8,014 pupils (79.6%) are eligible for promotion.

4.      For progression to the Secondary 5 Normal Course, pupils have to obtain a Grade 1 in English Language (Syllabus T) and Mathematics (Syllabus T) and a Grade 3 or better in a third subject, in one sitting. Based on the 2000 results, no pupil from Secondary Four (Technical) is eligible for S5N in 2001.

5.      All Normal course students who have completed their secondary education in 2000 can apply to further their studies at the Institute of Technical Education (ITE).

6.      Of the 3,195 private candidates who sat the examination, 1,863 (58.3%) are awarded certificates.

7.      School candidates have been issued with their results slips by their respective schools. Private candidates will be informed of their results by post and may also obtain their results through the MOE Internet address 'http://www.moe.edu.sg/exams' after 11 a.m. from 19 Dec 2000.
