THE SUSTAINED ACHIEVEMENT AWARD 2000

1.      The Ministry of Education's Sustained Achievement Award (SAA) gives recognition to schools that have performed well consistently over a period of years, either in an academic or non-academic area. The first SAAs were given in 1999 for excellent performance in the following areas: Academic Value-added results, Arts, Physical Fitness, Sports and Uniformed Group activities.

2.       This year, a total of 90 SAAs will be given out to 68 schools. Compared to 1999, this is an increase of 22 awards and 16 schools. Twenty-one schools, comprising 15 Primary Schools, 5 Secondary Schools and 1 JC are first time winners while the remaining 47 schools, comprising 17 Primary Schools, 24 Secondary Schools and 6 JCs are second time winners. The winners will receive the awards from the Minister for Education at the 2000 MOE Workplan Seminar on 23 September.

Primary Schools

3.      A total of 33 SAAs - 2 for Arts, 3 for Sports and 28 for Physical Fitness - will be given out to 32 Primary Schools. This is an increase of 12 awards and 12 schools over the previous year.

4.      Of the 15 first time winners, Paya Lebar Methodist Girls' Primary School will receive the SAA (Sports) and Pei Chun Public School will receive the SAA (Arts). The remaining 13 will receive the SAA (Physical Fitness). Of the second time winners, CHIJ Kellock will receive 2 SAAs (Sports and Physical Fitness). The details are given in Table 1.

Secondary Schools

5.      A total of 46 SAAs - 4 for Arts, 6 for Sports, 16 for Uniformed Group activities, 8 for Academic Value-added results and 12 for Physical Fitness - will be given out to 29 Secondary Schools. This is an increase of 8 awards and 4 schools over the previous year.

6.      The 5 first time winners are Boon Lay Secondary School, Dunman Secondary School and Gan Eng Seng School for Uniformed Group activities, Tanjong Katong Girls' School for Physical Fitness and Chung Cheng High (Main) School for Uniformed Group activities and Physical Fitness. Among the second time winners, 5 will be receiving 3 SAAs each. They are Nanyang Girls' High School and Raffles Girls' Secondary School (Arts, Sports and Physical Fitness), Raffles Institution (Arts, Sports and Uniformed Group activities), River Valley High School (Arts, Uniformed Group activities and Physical Fitness) and The Chinese High School (Sports, Uniformed Group activities and Physical Fitness). The details are given in Table 2.

Junior Colleges

7.      A total of 11 SAAs - 3 for Arts, 3 for Sports, 1 for Academic Value-added results and 4 for Physical Fitness - will be given out to 7 Junior Colleges. Four colleges will receive 2SAAs each. They are Anglo-Chinese Junior College and Raffles Junior College (Arts and Sports), National Junior College (Arts and Physical Fitness) and Temasek Junior College (Academic Value-added results and Physical Fitness). The details are given in Table 3.
