TEACHING SCHOLARSHIP PRESENTATION CEREMONY 

 

       The Ministry of Education will be holding the 2000 Teaching Scholarship Presentation Ceremony on Saturday, 15 July 2000 at 2.00 p.m. at Shangri-La Hotel, Singapore, Island Ballroom, Lobby Level, Orange Grove Road. Minister for Education, RAdm (NS) Teo Chee Hean will be the Guest-of-Honour.

 

2.     In total, there are 275 awards this year, comprising 88 PSC Teaching Scholarships, 23 Overseas Specialist Awards (Teaching) and 164 MOE Teaching Awards. This is higher than last year's number of 249.

 

3.     The number of teaching scholarships and awards given out has been increasing over the years:

*      The Overseas Specialist Award (Teaching) was administered by PSC before Year 2000. The administration was delegated to MOE with effect from the Year 2000 Scholarship Exercise.

Should read 2 teaching subjects at NUS (either as 2 majors or 1 major & 1 minor)
Qualify for entry into NUS based on NUS’ admission criteria (for ‘A’ level or Polytechnic diploma holders)
Current NUS Science or Arts undergraduates going on to Year 2 or 3.
Reasonably good ‘A’ level results or equivalent qualifications
Maintenance allowance of $4000 pa
Tuition fees and other approved fees (hostel fees not included)
Sponsorship for NUS Overseas Student Exchange Programme (if selected by NUS)
English Language
Mother Tongue Languages

Science/Commerce Stream:

Offer at least 4 ‘A’ Level subjects and attempt 2 ‘S’ papers.

Arts Stream:

Offer at least 3 ‘A’ Level & 1 ‘AO’ Level subjects and attempt at least 1 ‘S’ paper.
Arts candidates who offer only 3 ‘A’ Level subjects can still be considered provided they obtain passes in 2 ‘S’ papers.

Arts Stream:

Offer at least 3 ‘A’ Level & 1 ‘AO’ Level subjects and preferably attempt at least 1 ‘S’ paper.
Those without ‘S’ papers will also be considered.
