MINISTRY OF EDUCATION MOVES TO NORTH BUONA VISTA DRIVE

1         After more than 40 years at the Kay Siang Road location, the Ministry of Education (MOE) is moving to North Buona Vista Drive at the end of August 2000. The move takes place over three weeks, from 29 August to 21 September 2000.

2         The new Ministry building is sited within the South-West technology corridor, which encompasses the National University of Singapore, the Singapore Polytechnic, the Institute of Technical Education headquarters and the Science Park. Its address is:

1 North Buona Vista Drive
MOE Building
Singapore 138675
(opp. Buona Vista MRT station)
Tel: 68721110 (main)

Building Features

3         The Ministry's new 24-storey Headquarters comprise an elevated Tower block interconnected with a lower Podium block, set around an open courtyard. The building exterior is clad in light green glass and crisp metal curtain-walling. The tower block has a signature 15-metre-high, V-shaped roof truss depicting an open book, giving the headquarters a distinctive architectural presence.

4         The building is IT-enabled and has intelligent features. One intelligent feature is the multi-function 'smart card', which will serve as an access control card, an ID card, library card and stored value card.

5         The building is also designed to be environmentally friendly and energy saving. For instance, there is the computer-controlled 'lighting zones' and 'cooling zones' feature, which allows individual officers, who work after office hours to light up and cool down his or her particular zone, without having to turn on the lights and air-conditioning for the whole office.

Customer Service Centre

6         The new MOE HQ building will house a Customer Service Centre (CSC) to provide counter and call centre services to members of the public. The CSC is located on the ground floor of the Podium block. There are computer facilities at the CSC for members of the public who want to access the Internet for more information on MOE or transact their applications electronically instead of joining the counter queue. CSC will for a start provide the following services:

Matters concerning admission to government and government-aided schools;
Registration for national examinations for private candidates;
Requests for certified copies of examination results;
Dissemination of application materials for tenders and MOE appointments;
Collection of applications.

7         The CSC will open to serve the public from 18 September 2000. Public can call CSC at Tel: 8722220 or visit the CSC between 8am and 6pm on weekdays, and between 8am and 1pm on Saturdays. The longer operating hours are for the convenience of our customers.

8         Members of the public are advised that all public counters at MOE HQ Kay Siang Road will be in operation until 16 September 2000. The public will be able to approach the CSC for such services from 18 September 2000 onwards.
