1999 PSLE RESULTS

  1. A total of 45,420 Primary 6 pupils sat for the Primary School Leaving Examination (PSLE) this year. This comprised 37,441 pupils from the EM1 and EM2 courses and 7,979 pupils from the EM3 course. As in past examinations, pupils in the EM1 and EM2 courses sat for English, Mathematics, Science and Mother Tongue; pupils in the EM3 course sat for Foundation English, Foundation Mathematics and Basic Mother Tongue.

     

  2. In all, 43,697 pupils (or 96.2%) have been assessed as suitable to proceed to secondary school. Of these students, 60.9% are eligible for the Special or Express course and 39.1% for the Normal (Academic) or Normal (Technical) course.

     

  3. There are 1,723 pupils (or 3.8 %) who are assessed to be not yet ready for the secondary school in 2000 or more suited for vocational training. Of these, 1,404 will be given another year in Primary 6 to consolidate their basic language and mathematics skills. The remaining 319, who are overaged, will be enrolled in basic vocational training courses.
