LAUNCH OF FIRST TEACHERS’ NETWORK PUBLICATION, 6 NOV 1999

1. TEACHING: A Journey of Love, the first Teachers’ Network publication will be launched on 6 November 1999. This marks a milestone for the Network in its effort to promote professionalism among teachers and contribute to the building of a fraternity based on professional reflection and sharing.

2. The book will be launched in conjunction with an appreciation ceremony for Teachers´ Network Fellows and Associates who are successful practitioners and academicians, who have contributed significantly to the Network. In the year 2000, Teachers´ Network will confer eleven Fellows and fifty-three Associates. Among the Fellows will be six NIE professors, one RELC lecturer, two President Award teachers, one school superintendent and one school principal. The award will be presented by Mr. Wee Heng Tin, Director-General of Education, at a tea reception to be held in Raffles Room, The Tanglin Club.

3. This book is written mainly for beginning teachers although experienced teachers would find the stories both inspiring and heart-warming. The first section of the book provides quick tips on class management for first timers. The second section reflects the experiences of some teachers, which will encourage and affirm others in their challenging profession. Finally, the book includes pages for the beginning teacher to record his or her own joys and frustrations and capture his/her own treasures.

4. The author, Mrs Lim Tai Foon, is a Senior Teacher of St. Hilda´s Primary School with 27 years of experience. She has served a year as a Fellow in Teachers´ Network since January 1999 and was one of the first recipients of the President´s Award for Teachers in 1998. Her work is a testimony to her personal mission of finding joy and satisfaction in helping her pupils succeed.
