SHIFT IN THE GCE N-LEVEL EXAMINATION TIMEFRAME

  1. The GCE N-level written examination is currently held in September. With effect from the year 2000, the examination will be held in October, except for Mother Tongue Languages which will be examined in early September.
  2. Since its introduction, the GCE N-level written examination has always been held during the one-week September holidays with some papers conducted during term-time. This was to provide sufficient time for marking so that results can be released in time for pupils eligible for Sec 5N and those entering ITE to begin classes in January of the following year.
  3. In the present arrangement there is a time lag of three months between the end of the N-level examination and the start of ITE and the new school year. MOE has worked with the University of Cambridge Local Examinations Syndicate and ITE on the work processes and will be able to reduce the time gap by about one month from year 2000. The N-level results will be released in time for the start of ITE and the new school year.
  4. A summary of the main changes in the N-level examination schedule is as follows:

except for Mother Tongue Languages which will be examined on 4 Sep
