THE CHINESE HIGH SCHOOL
1. The Committee of Management of The Chinese High School would like to assure parents that school programmes in The Chinese High School are not in any way affected by the pending retirement of the Principal. Both staff and pupils have expressed that they respect Mr Tooh's decision and wish him a happy retirement.
2. School programmes are being carried out as usual. Sec 4 teachers have been busy preparing the students for the preliminary examinations which commence on Monday, 27 Sep 99. Special classes have been set up for students who need extra tuition on a small group basis. Teachers have also volunteered to run the library in the evenings should there be a large number of students who want to study in school during the examination period. The annual parent-teacher gatherings have been held; and the annual Research & Development Seminar was also carried out last week.
3. A number of collaboration projects with overseas institutions currently in progress will continue. Overseas partners include the Presbysterian Ladies College, Melbourne; Queen’s College, Hongkong, Shatin Government School, Hongkong; and Chinese University of Hongkong. The Physics Talent Development Programme continues with its industrial attachment scheme with US Micron. A group of about 10 pupils will visit the Silicon Valley in Dec 99. They will visit leaders of IT industries as well as schools established in IT and Thinking Programmes.
4. The 80th Anniversary of The Chinese High School will culminate in the 80th Anniversary Walkathon to be held on 23 Oct 99. Funds raised will go towards charitable organisations.
5. The appointment of the new Principal is being finalised and will be announced shortly.
