1998 PSLE RESULTS
A total of 40,021 Primary 6 pupils sat for the Primary School Leaving Examination (PSLE) this year. This comprised 33,159 pupils from the EM1 and EM2 courses and 6,862 pupils from the EM3 course. As in past examinations, pupils in the EM1 and EM2 courses sat for papers in English, Mathematics, Science and Mother Tongue. Pupils in the EM3 course sat for papers in Foundation English, Foundation Mathematics and Basic Mother Tongue.
2 In all, 38,027 pupils (95%) have been assessed as suitable to proceed to secondary school. Of these students, 62% are eligible for the Special or Express courses and 38% for the Normal (Academic) or Normal (Technical) courses.
3 There are 1,994 pupils (5%) who are assessed to be not yet ready for the secondary school in 1999 or more suited for vocational training. Of these, 1,681 will be given another year in Primary 6 to consolidate their basic language and mathematics skills. The remaining 313, who are overaged, will be enrolled in vocational training centres.
