THREE SINGAPORE STUDENTS EMERGE TOPS IN ThinkQuest 98
Three Singapore students have won top prizes in the recently concluded Thinkquest 98. Thinkquest is an annual international web-based design competition. This year, the competition attracted over 2000 teams from 64 countries. A total of 305 secondary and junior college students from Singapore participated in the competition. Singapore had the largest number of participants after the United States.

3 Between 21 and 23 Nov 98, the three students were in Los Angeles for the final round of judging of the competition. There were a total of 34 teams in the finals, categorised into five different content categories: Arts and Literature, Interdisciplinary, Science and Mathematics, Social Science, and Sports and Health.
4 As a student member of the top team in their respective categories, they will each receive an award of US$15,000 in the form of a scholarship which may be used for qualified tuition and related expenses at a college or university. Their schools will each receive a cash award of US$2,500.
5 Launched in the United States in 1995, ThinkQuest was opened to international participants in 1997. The Ministry of Education took on the role of National Partner for ThinkQuest in Singapore in 1998. The ThinkQuest programme was created with the intention to help equalise educational access to technology through a collaborative model for learning and teaching.
6 ThinkQuest challenges school students aged 12 to 19 with diverse backgrounds to collaborate over long distances, in creating high quality educational tools that take advantage of the strengths of the Internet. Since its launch, more than a thousand content-rich, interactive educational sites have been created and made available to students and teachers world-wide via ThinkQuest's web site at http://www.thinkquest.org/ .
