INAUGURAL APPOINTMENT CEREMONY FOR PRINCIPALS
The Ministry of Education will be holding its inaugural Appointment Ceremony for Principals on 21 Dec 98.
2 The Appointment Ceremony is held in recognition of the important role school principals play in building up effective schools. With the support of the Ministry, school principals guide, mould and nurture their students to become better individuals and useful citizens. Principals also inspire their teachers to give of their best and work with parents and community in helping their students achieve the desired outcomes of Education. The Appointment Ceremony is the occasion when the Ministry formally entrusts school principals with the responsibility to lead their schools.
3 The Appointment Ceremony for Principals will be an annual event. As an inaugural ceremony this year, all principals will receive their appointment certificates. In subsequent ceremonies, only principals who are newly appointed or rotated to head another school will receive the appointment certificates.
4 Of the 360 principals who will be receiving certificates at the inaugural ceremony, a total of 71 principals will be given new postings for 1999. This comprises 31 newly appointed principals and 40 serving principals who will be rotated. (Annex A). This number is comparable to the 72 principals who were given new postings last year.
5 The annual new appointment and rotation of principals will, on the one hand, enable schools to have the benefit of the infusion of fresh perspectives and, on the other hand, allow Education Officers to be given the opportunities for different challenges as part of their career development. Principals will introduce innovative systemic improvements, which their successors and the whole school community can benefit from even as they seek to preserve and uphold the cherished traditions of the schools they have been entrusted with.
