BOARDING AWARDS SCHEME

The Ministry of Education has established the Boarding Awards Scheme to provide Singaporean children  whose parents are working or residing abroad an opportunity to continue their secondary education in Singapore. Parents who put their children in schools in Singapore can be assured that their children will receive a balanced and all-round education with an emphasis on bilingualism, stay in touch with their Singapore friends and develop a keener sense of being Singaporean.

2         The Boarding Awards Scheme, sponsored by the Singapore Totalisator Board , will cover 50% of the boarding fees. Students awarded the Edusave Entrance Scholarship for Independent Schools will receive 100% of the boarding fees. To be eligible for the Boarding Awards, the child as well as one parent must be a Singapore citizen. Up to 60 awards will be given out this year. The award will be tenable over the entire duration of the students’ secondary education as long as both parents continue to work or reside overseas during the tenure of the award.

3         The five hostels participating in the Boarding Awards Scheme are:

Anglo-Chinese (Independent) Boarding School
Anglican House
Hua Zhong Hostel
Nanyang Girls’ Boarding School
Raffles Institution Boarding School

4         The hostels provide boarders with a safe and familiar environment where they can experience the comforts and security of a "home away from home". The hostel environment will be stimulating where academic, social and cultural activities that they organises such as regular preparation time, camps and festive celebrations are organised. Boarders also receive help with their school work from resident tutors. The hostels are equipped with recreational facilities as well as reading rooms and computer rooms. Parents can be assured that their children will receive a good Singapore education and be well taken care of while they are away.
