INTERNATIONAL FRIENDSHIP DAY

  1. One of the core historical events which all schools have to commemorate as part of their National Education programme is International Friendship Day.
  2. Officially, the day of commemoration is 21 Sep 97. 21 Sep was chosen this year as International Friendship Day as it marks the day in 1965 when Singapore joined the United Nations as an independent, sovereign nation.
  3. The theme of International Friendship Day is "Singapore wants to be friends with all countries who want to be friends with us".
  4. Schools will be devising their own programmes in their commemoration of International Friendship Day. Examples are national flag and costume displays, national song and dance concerts and booths displaying the various cultural activities of other countries. .The creative and interesting ideas which schools generate will help make the occasion educational and meaningful for the pupils.
