PROMOTION EXERCISE FOR EDUCATION OFFICERS

  1. The Ministry of Education (MOE) has completed the second promotion exercise in 1996 for Education Officers. Heads of Department (HODs) and MOE HQ officers in equivalent positions were considered for promotion into the Senior Education Officer 1 and 2 (SEO 1 and 2) grades. In addition, classroom teachers were considered for promotion into these grades as Senior Teachers. This follows the recent revision to the Education Scheme of Service whereby HOD posts in primary and secondary schools were upgraded to SEO 1 and 2 grades and Senior Teacher positions of SEO 1 and 2 grades were introduced. Promotion as Senior Teacher accords recognition to outstanding classroom teachers who are good role models, well-versed in teaching methodologies and have made contributions to the Education Service, both within and outside the classroom.
  2. With effect from 1 Oct 96, a total of 852 officers will be promoted. Of this, 387 officers will be promoted to SEO 1 and 465 officers will be promoted to SEO 2. The promoted officers include 578 HODs, 116 MOE HQ officers in equivalent positions, and 158 Senior Teachers. The 578 HODs promoted represent about 40% of the total pool of HODs in General Education Officer 1A and 2A grades.
  3. Earlier this year, in the first promotion exercise carried out in June, a total of 7,430 Education Officers were promoted.
