POSTING OF MOTHER TONGUE LANGUAGE TEACHER TO BANGKOK

  1. The Ministry of Education has posted a Mother Tongue language teacher, Miss Lee Soo Yean, to Bangkok Patana School, Thailand, to teach Singaporean pupils at the school. Bangkok Patana School is an international school based on the British education system.
  2. The teaching of Mother Tongue language to Singaporean pupils at the school began on 2 Sep at the start of the new term. Thirty-three Singaporean pupils, comprising 26 primary and seven pre-primary pupils, are currently receiving lessons from the teacher. The lessons are conducted during the school's curriculum hours, using the Singapore curriculum and materials for the primary pupils.
  3. Parents of pupils taking the Mother Tongue language lessons pay a fee of S$150 per month per child as contribution towards the cost of the teacher.
  4. The Ministry is monitoring the effectiveness of the scheme and studying how it is possible to help other Singaporean pupils in Bangkok and other Asian cities.
