REGISTRATION OF CHILDREN FOR ADMISSION TO PRIMARY ONE CLASSES IN 1997
Registration of children for admission to Primary One classes in 1997 will be carried out from Wednesday, 3 July 1996 to Friday, 30 August 1996. The dates for the different phases of registration are given at Annex A.
2 All primary and full schools will be open for registration from 0800 hours to 1100 hours and from 1430 hours to 1630 hours during the registration period.
3 Parents registering their children under Phase 1 are not required to register at the school as applications will be done through the older sibling in the school. The registration of a child under Phase 2A to 2C Supplementary is to be done at the school of choice by the parent or by a person authorised by the parent in writing.
4 Singaporeans overseas who wish to register their children for Primary One can obtain the Application Form and a copy of the registration procedures from the Singapore Clubs and Associations overseas.
5 Children born between 2 January 1990 and 1 January 1991 (both dates inclusive) may be registered for Primary One classes in 1997. Children born between 2 January 1988 and 1 January 1990 (both dates inclusive), who have not previously been registered for Primary One classes, may also be registered for admission to school in 1997.
6 Children will be allocated places in the school according to the priority spelt out in the Registration Scheme (Annex A). Balloting will be conducted should the number of applications exceed the number of vacancies in any phase.
7 At the end of Phase 2A, 50% of the remaining places will be allocated for Phase 2B registrants in each school. If the number of qualifying applicants in Phase 2B exceeds the 50% cap, successful applicants will be determined first by proximity of residence to the school and then by ballot
8 Children who are unsuccessful in obtaining a Primary One place in a school of their choice at the end of Phase 2C Supplementary of the registration exercise will be posted by the Ministry of Education to schools near their homes which still have vacancies.
Announcementon balloting and vacancies
9 Parents can find out which school will be conducting balloting from the newspapers, Intv (Classitext, Channel 8 under the Education Section) or through Internet (www.moe.edu.sg/esp) at the end of each registration phase. Parents are welcome to witness the balloting. The vacancy position for individual schools will be updated daily in the Internet and on Intv.
DocumentsRequired for Registration
10 Parents must produce the originals of the documents listed in Annex Bat the time of registration. Each child should be registered at only one school. If the child is registered at more than one school, he may lose his place in the school of choice.
11 The Ministry of Health requires all pupils to be immunized against diphtheria, tetanus, poliomyelitis and measles. Parents should therefore have their
children immunized against these diseases before admission to school. Immunization can be done at any government maternal and child health clinic or at any private
clinic. If documentary evidence of immunization is available, it should be produced for inspection at the time of registration.
