Indoor Sports Hall

Name and Constituency of Member of Parliament

Dr Fatimah Lateef, MP for Marine Parade GRC

Question

To ask the Minister for Education following the announcement that the Government had deferred public projects due to the high cost of construction and inflation rate, if he will provide an update and details of subsequent plans for construction of indoor sports hall in schools.

Response

MOE plans to provide all primary and secondary schools with an Indoor Sports Hall by 2014. To date, Indoor Sports Halls have been built in 12 schools and 80 schools are on track to have their Indoor Sports Halls completed by early 2010.

In view of the Government’s decision to defer certain public construction projects, MOE has deferred the construction of Indoor Sports Halls for 25 schools originally scheduled for completion by end 2009 to end 2010. The Indoor Sports Hall for the remaining 206 schools will be implemented in phases between 2010 and 2014.
