Primary school Higher Chinese covers all learning outcomes for Chinese

  1. Mdm Chia Puay Lung (“Continue normal Chinese lessons”, ST Forum, 16 June) was concerned about schools which do away with the normal Chinese (CL) lessons for primary school students studying Higher Chinese (HCL).
  2. We would like to reassure Mdm Chia that the new HCL syllabus covers all the learning outcomes, i.e. linguistic skills, as well as all characters for CL over the six years in primary school. In addition, HCL students learn more advanced linguistic skills and more characters than the CL students. As such, HCL students need only study the HCL textbook when preparing for the PSLE.
  3. We would like to thank Mdm Chia for her feedback.
